Add up the frequencies to find the total number of values in the table/chart/data set. Divide that number by 2. If the total # of values is odd, then you will get a decimal & you round that decimal up to the next whole number to find the median value. If that total # of values is even, then you get a whole number and you take that number and the next largest whole number (increase it by 1) and average those two values to get the median. These calculations tell you which "value/values" are the median values and then you will count in the chart until you reach that value/values. You can count from the bottom or the top, it doesn't matter. Example: Say there are 20 total values (frequencies) in a chart. 20/2 = 10 & 20 = even. Therefore, the median will be the average of the 10th & 11th values. So you start at the bottom (or the top) of the chart/table and then count until you get to the 10th & 11th values. Then average those 2 numbers. Now say the chart has 21 total values (frequencies). 21/2 = 10.5 & 21 = odd. Round 10.5 -> 11. The 11th value will be the median (basically 10 below it and 10 above it). Start at the bottom or top and count until you get to the 11th value. When I say "count in the chart" I mean, count along the frequency column. So after the first two, you're at 4, then after the 2nd row (value = 15), you have 7 total values (4 + 3), after the 3rd row (value = 20), you have 9 total values (4 + 3 + 2). Then whenever you land on the row that you are looking for (10th, 11th, 50th, etc.), you take the number from the value column. Let me know if you have further questions. Median in Statistics
For example, the median of 3, 3, 5, 9, 11 is 5. If there is an even number of observations, then there is no single middle value; the median is then usually defined to be the mean of the two middle values: so the median of 3, 5, 7, 9 is (5+7)/2 ...

Is there a faster way to calculate the median??
For this data, you can get rid of pairs of values that obviously aren't the middle values. You have ten data, three starting with a 5, three starting with 3, and four starting with 4. Thus, it is clear that the 50k and 30k values aren't the middle values. We can eliminate the three 50k and the three 30k values, leaving only the four 40k values. Then we have values of 41,xxx, 43,xxx, 44,xxx, and 46,xxx. So the 43k and 44k values are the middle two. No need to order all the numbers, or write anything down. More on reddit.com

ELI5: How Medians Are Calculated

Besides the other information here, the way to calculate median is very simple. When you have a huge set of data, you can use probability theory to find a density function (A function where, given your input value X, you get an output that is the probability that a randomly selected person in your data will, in this case, earn X income), and then from there you can easily find the value for which 50% of the function relies on either side of that point.

Median - Formula, Meaning, Example | How to Find Median?
Let's consider an example to figure out what is median for a given set of data. Step 1: Consider the data: 4, 4, 6, 3, and 2. Let's arrange this data in ascending order: 2, 3, 4, 4, 6. Step 2: Count the number of values. There are 5 values. Step 3: Look for the middle value. The middle value is the median. Thus, median = 4. Using the median formula, the middle value of the arranged set of numbers can be calculated. For finding this measure of central tendency, it is necessary to write the components of the group in increasing order.
