r/samsung on Reddit: Samsung Pay reset on me twice in the last 2 weeks
February 12, 2024 -

I've had Samsung Pay setup for ages and pay with my watch almost exclusively and it has worked fine.

A few weeks ago I went to pay at the grocery store and instead of loading up my cards on my watch I got a "Welcome to Samsung Pay" message that said "check your phone" after I went through the screens. All the cards were gone. I couldn't pay with my preferred card (rewards for grocery stores). I rely on Samsung Pay to store all the cards that I only use periodically so I don't have to keep them in my wallet.

So I spent an hour adding them all back when I got home. Then fast forward to today and it happened again!

What's going on and why can't I keep Samsung Pay setup? I'm the only one with access to the watch, I haven't had any issues entering my pin, there have been no red flags, and nothing remotely seeming like it would justify my cards being wiped from my devices. It would be nice if Samsung gave you a heads up so you could fix it and they could tell you why they did that so you could avoid it, but you simply don't find out until you try to use it. Maybe they're mad because I didn't pre-order the 24 Ultra.

It's happened to me as well -- 2nd time in 3 days. I came here in the hopes of finding an explanation. It's still working on my phone, but it resets on my watch. Such a pain!

I too am having this on Z Fold 5 and Watch 5 with both being fully updated. At first, I thought this may be due to too many incorrect unlock attempts on phone and/or watch, but after paying close attention neither of them was true nor frequent enough. I do, however, have a theory. This tends to happen when I go to 7-Eleven where it doesn't "recognize" contactless pay on my watch and somehow causes the reset. This leads me to believe that the watch somehow detects the scanner is not recognizing something and decides to reset itself. This happened twice in a row for 2 separate visits at 7-Eleven. As such, I would have a choice to contend with Either Avoid using contactless payments at sketchy places and at certain retailers like 7-Eleven, and use actual plastic card (or phone maybe) Switch to Google Pay. (Learning curve, forcing it to be default on watch, etc) Neither of those options are ideal and this really should be addressed by Samsung, but fat chance of that happening any time soon! Now, the Fold 5 is an 1800 device and the Watch5 I got refurbished, but it retailed for several hundred dollars. This is not "cheap" $20 technology here. Furthermore, I use a flagship-like Samsung phone and a flagship-like watch (admittedly a generation or two behind) and using Samsung software (Samsung pay). There is no excuse for this! Samsung can and should do better!
