Hello,
I am currently in the process of trying to transfer a car from my father to me as a gift. I was hoping to avoid fees of going through an auto tag place. Can anyone please explain me what I need to make this transfer happen. This is my first car so I apologize if this is a silly question. Thank you so much :)

So I'm not an expert but I think you will still have the title transfer and registration fees, the only thing you will save on is sales tax due to being gifted the vehicle.

I actually work for AAA and in the state of PA you can only do title transfers at a 3rd party messenger service. You want to try and find one that is an online messenger service because they can actually do the transfer online and you get your registration instantly. You will need an mv13st form, which can easily be found online, whoevers names are on the title must be present to sign the title you'll need valid PA ID and an insurance card in your name that'd valid as well. Any messenger service you go to will make you pay fees if you go to a AAA in PA they all can do it for you and their fees are the cheapest honestly even if you're not a member. Fees are usually for a passenger vehicle like an suv or car 67 for the title, 50 for registration if you're getting a new plate but since it's your parents you actually can transfer the plate and registration which if it's not expired will save you some money. All in all if you do it at a AAA office it'll be close to 200 if you're not a member and if you are it's about 124.

You and the buyer are required to go to a business that offers title transfers as a service. Anywhere you could go to register your car/get plates, etc will offer this service. The employee will walk you through the process. In PA taxes are paid when the vehicle is registered, so that will be dealt with when the new buyer goes to register the car in their name.
