Trying to change my Apple ID password
How do I change an Apple ID password? - Apple Community
Just a rant: there’s no way to reset your iCloud password if you don’t know your iCloud password.
If you know the phone passcode and depending on the iOS version, go to settings > name at the top > password and security. You can change your iCloud password since the device is signed into that account.

So I’m trying to change my password for my Apple ID on my IPhone 14.
I go into settings, click on my Apple account, and hit Security & Sign In. Then under security I hit Change password.
The Face ID pops up and gives me the check mark.
Then that’s it…nothing happens. What am I missing?
EDIT: I got it working, turns out I had to reset my Face ID and redo it.
So my dad somehow created an Apple ID linked to an iCloud email address. He can’t remember it. Or doesn’t know it. The only way to reset it (aside from answering the security questions that he doesn’t know the answers to)? Send a password reset to the email associated with it. That’s all fine and dandy UNLESS the email account is an iCloud email account. That you can’t get into because you don’t know the password. So now he’s got a pop-up every 6 or so seconds asking for his Apple ID password. The best part is I can’t just wipe the phone and start all over again with a new Apple ID that we can set up properly because I can’t turn off find my iPhone. It’ll be a paperweight.

You can absolutely change it... but you have to know at least a few pieces of the puzzle. If he doesn’t know his iCloud email address, password, passcode, security questions, what year it is, and the color of the sky - you are correct, won’t be changing that password any time soon. Sooooo many people set stuff up, don’t keep track of their settings, and then get mad when there’s trouble. Ummm not Apple’s fault!
