Anyone else confused on the iPad Pro pricing? Especially with the release of the M4 MacBook Air...
iPhone 16 Pro Max vs iPad mini screen sizes
Let me start by saying I love my iPad! I use it quite a bit, with that said the release of the new M4 MacBook Air just has me questioning the price point of the iPad.
So there are obviously several configurations you can get for both. Lets look at the 13 in models for comparison sake.
M4 iPad Pro 13 in with 256 GB WiFi ($1299) - Cellular ($1499)
M4 iPad Pro 13 in with 512 GB WiFi ($1499) - Cellular ($1699)
M4 iPad Pro 13 in with 1 TB WiFi ($1899) - Cellular ($2099)
M4 iPad Pro 13 in with 2 TB WiFi ($2299) - Cellular ($2499)
Throw in the keyboard for any of them and its an extra $350.
Should be noted the 256 GB and 512 GB models have 9-core CPU, 10-core GPU, and 8GB of RAM.
If you opt for the 1 TB or 2 TB models you'll get 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, and 16GB of RAM.
The new M4 MacBook Air also has several configuration options but these are the first 2 listed.
10-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD for $999
10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16 GB RAM, 516 GB SSD for $1199
Either of these can be configured to 1 or 2 TB which will add anywhere from 400 to 800 depending on the model. If we use the second option it will bring you up to $1399 for 1 TB or $1799 for 2 TB (only $600 more for the added storage for 2 TB).
Obviously this comes with the keyboard included so there's no additional cost there.
In addition the Mac is not limited as heavily as iPad OS is.
Am I just way off base here or am I completely missing something? Why is the iPad priced so high in comparison to the Mac? Its not a full laptop replacement because there's no option to have a Mac OS on it or even a lighter version of Mac OS. I will say the other benifits, touch screen ability to write and draw are great. Although it can do a lot I still feel the need to keep my Mac for the instances that it just can't get what I need done. I feel like the iPad is great but I'm just not understanding the price point. Any thoughts or anything I'm missing please let me know! What are your thoughts? Thanks!
