iPhone 14 camera, is 48mp, but when you take a photo using standard processing it uses a Quad Pixel sensor format, meaning your photo will store as 12mp. If you truly want to take photos in 48mp, you need to use Pro Raw, which will actually take pictures in that huge size. More on discussions.apple.com
Although the 14 pro's main sensor is bigger than the 13 pro's (1/1.28 vs 1/1.7), the 14 pro's main camera has an aperture of ƒ/1.78, which is smaller than the 13 pro's ƒ/1.5 (smallest in any phone ever). How will low-light video be impacted? Will the 14 pro have similar or better performance?

Also, the fact that the 14 pro's 48 mp mode will not be utilized in videos (no 8k) is kind of pointless..The only upgrade in terms of video is the 4k cinematic, which is not that useful.

Imho using the same old resolutions for video is the best choice. Both the 24mm wide angle and the 3x telephoto lenses have fixed focal length and between them you can only use digital zoom. Cropping a 48 MP sensor gives a clear advantage in this case. 8K videos would have worked only on the main camera (you really don’t want more smaller pixels on the other tiny sensors and i guess 48x3 cameras is too much for the ISP so you can’t have the seamless switch between sensors). My idea is that if they can throw in additional features they should, but looking at how android phones do 8k, it’s not the right time. I’d rather keep the full processing pipeline and a general improvement over a complete waste of storage.

iPhone 14 Pro Camera Review: A Small Step, A Huge Leap
August 10, 2023 - This kind of sensor size change is what we’d call a big deal. Image from Tech Insight’s preliminary iPhone 14 Pro sensor analysis. The implications are clear: more pixels for more resolution; more light gathered for better low light shots, and finally, a bigger sensor for improvements in all areas including more shallow depth of field. There’s a reason we chase the dragon of larger sensors in cameras; they allow for all our favorite photography subjects: details, low light and night shots, and nice bokeh.
