So while I enjoy my old 6 plus from 2014. It’s at a point now where the phone will not work without being plugged in at all times.
It’s been at 51% battery health for years now, I’ve wanted to replace the battery myself; but the glue tabs are completely gone. I bought this one second hand back in 2016 after my 2014 model broke.
I feel like the $50 price tag to replace an old phones battery like this is very steep; seeing as the phone is barely worth if that.
I saw another poster said they were offered a phone replacement instead. Mines pretty badly beat up from previous owner aside from screen replace I did a few years back.
Anyways I’m curious how others experiences have been at replacing older phone batteries like this through apple etc. Especially the 6-line.

u/Poliveris , i replace the batteries on all of my iphones myself and in our household we have iphones ranging from the 2nd Gen Iphone, aka iphone 3G going all the way to the current models... though on the just released ones, i've yet to open any of them as they are brand new. The 6 series and in your case, the 6 Plus, the battery replacement is not difficult to replace it yourself. I checked in amazon today and batteries do NOT cost 50 bucks... you can find them as low as 15 bucks... so is just a matter you do your research and remember you get what you paid for... therefor if you choose the cheapest no-brand with questionable feedback, then you will get probably a questionable battery at best. In my case, I always get a battery that has good feedback in amazon... don't look for batteries that claim 5billion percent higher capacity, etc... just get the one that has good feedback, some kits will include the frame/display adhesive and if not, then you can purchase those, which a pack of 3 or 10 will still cost you a few bucks. Just as other redditors mentioned, you just need to be careful and have patience... just as you replace the batteries on a flashlight or a car, is just the same on an iPhone... just the device is a lot smaller so again, a bit of patience and you'll be good to go. iFixit says that on their replacement batteries they do not support the battery health reading so it'll show up like that in the image. · The worn out original battery with shut down problem can be replaced by apple and the same shutdown issue should not occur once the battery has been replaced. · If the phone works fine I would not worry about the battery health feature.

I've got the exact answer for this case! · I have an iphone 6S and it showed that battery status 'SERVICE' and maximum capacity 39%, although I changed old battery to a new aftermarket battery(by Nohon). · Another NORMAL battery(Not showing 'SERVICE') can help this situation. · 1. just connect NORMAL battery · 2. turn on the iPhone · 3. check battery information (Not 'SERVICE') · 4. turn off · 5. connect NEW battery · 6. turn on / check battery info.
