I use the surge joggers for working out. I get a size down cause I like it tight, size small.
I’m only an inch taller than ya for perspective.
More on reddit.comAfter the most recent Patagonia sale, in which I ended up buying 4 Terrebonne Joggers, I realized that maybe my jogger purchasing for the year might have become a little excessive. Like most of my clothing purchases, I blame this subreddit. But let me tell you about my experiences at 32 Degrees, Lululemon, LTTstore, Costco, and Patagonia.
As background, for me, the ideal jogger is one that is comfy enough to be worn as loungewear, but also look good with a collared shirt. My job has a pretty casual dress code, so I have found myself wearing joggers more and more if they can pass as chinos when you squint your eyes. As other background, I'm 6'1'', often wearing mediums, inseam 32-34 depending on the clothing.
32 Degrees
Men's Soft Stretch Terry Jogger in Ink Chill (blue), $12
Men's Active Tech Jogger Stingray Heather (grey), $14
Men's Comfort Terry Jogger Black, $12
This was my first foray into joggers. I had been happy with some other 32D purchases, and decided to through these into my inventory when buying some other clothes. Overall, I'm happy with the soft stretch terry and the comfort terry but did not end up keeping the tech joggers; I didn't end up liking the color as much, or the stripe they had on the side. Additionally the fabric was a little more plastic-y and was too "swishy" for me.
The comfort terry are very much a nice, soft sweat pant and not as much like typical joggers. I like that they have a zippered pocket. They are a little too casual for work but are great around the house. The soft stretch terry are not quite as soft or stretchy as the comfort terry, nor do they have a zippered pocket, but they are still comfortable. Like other 32 Degree pants, which have a fixed inseam, the length is a touch on the short side for me, but I find it to be acceptable, especially for the price.
Lululemon's ABC jogger: I bought two pair, with some kind of discount (I believe the "We Made Too Many") for $90 each, colors Blue and Dark Forest. These were definitely an upgrade from the 32 D pants. I find them very comfortable, they go great with work clothes. It took me some time to get used to the cuff coming up a little higher on my ankle, but I think that is more of a me thing, as that is the style for these kind of pants, and not a knock on the pants. However, I have found that things like wallets or phones don't stay in the pockets very well. They are a little shallow and un-zippered. While very happy with the purchase, the pockets and the retail price of $128 have me pause before coming back for more.
LTT Store Premium Joggers: Linus Tech Tips (LTT) is a YouTube channel I enjoy watching. They also have a merch store (LTTStore.com) that sells apparel that they brand as good quality for a reasonable price. After my Lululemon purchase, I wondered if this could get somewhat comparable pants for a third the price. I do like the material, think it's comfortable and reasonably comparable to what I got from Lululemon, though the style and fit isn't the exactly the same. A bonus is that the pockets are zippered. However, at 6'1, I was right on the border of their size chart on whether the standard or long version was the best size for me. I ended up going for long, which I think was a mistake. The long would be a good size for me if they were a standard pair of pants, but because joggers generally sit more at the ankle or above the ankle, they end up looking a bit baggier on me. It's nothing too crazy, but enough that I don't wear them to work. Would definitely buy them again, just as the standard size.
Costco Kirkland Signature Men's Active Jogger: This came from a FMF post. They retailed for $13 but there was a sale where they were $16 for 2. I bought both red and black. These have been an awesome purchase. They are so incredible soft, so light, but look awesome for work still (at least the red. I've found in general black joggers don't pass as well). There are things you notice, being cheaper, like spare threads. I also noticed a pill or two recently, despite having only washed them once or twice. This makes more sad, thinking they may not last forever. I'm also sad that they are out of stock. I would easily pay double (or even triple) the retail price for more, especially if they made additional colors. My understanding is that they are a Vuori knock off, so maybe I'll look there in the future, although those clothes are closer to Lululemon prices.
Patagonia Terrebonne Joggers: I had tried these on before at a store but never bought them as they seemed more aimed at exercise. They are lighter and thinner and would be too casual appearing for work. However, when the sale appeared here, I had a hard time saying no to buying more joggers from a brand I've liked for 70% off. I was in for 4 to qualify for the free shipping. Not much longevity experience yet, but they are comfortable and light. I think they'll be good for lounging around the house, even in the summer, where some of the other pants can be too warm. The pockets don't have zippers, but are deeper than the Lululemon pants and seem to retain things a little better. I do prefer clothes with little branding, so I'd love if the leg didn't have the Patagonia brand on it, but it's not too prominent.
