Question about page numbers for cover calculator

It’s the number or interior pages. You will enter 10. Think minimum page count is 24 pages so watch for that. It’s so that the template it gives you has a thicker spine to reflect more images. The more pages you have the thicker the book of course so the graphics might need stretching to a accommodate the spine width. If that makes sense. So say you wanted a white spine. The template will show you how thick the book will get with certain number of pages and thus you can make sure your white spine is the correct size. More on reddit.com

You will want to wait to make your FINAL cover designs until after you know the exact final page count. Typeface, size, margins, chapter art, how you do scene dividers, and the number of pages of front and back matter are going to impact the page count by quite a lot (could be upwards of 30 pages in either direction depending on the choices you make here). Other than that, my only major tip would be: IF you're publishing fiction, use cream colored pages. Traditionally non-fiction uses white paper and fiction uses cream. :) More on reddit.com

I’m in the process of publishing my first book, and for the cover template calculator the number of pages in the book are asked. I’m just confused on if this means the number of pages front and back, or total? For instance, if I have 10 pages of text, would I enter that as 10 pages or 5 pages since the book will print on the front and back of pages?

It's fine to get your ebook cover designed now. But your paperback cover cannot be finalized until you know the exact page count. If someone else is formatting it for you, they will be able to tell you the exact page count after your manuscript is finalized. If you are formatting yourself, you will have to format all the chapters so they start on the correct side, so that the margins are correct, and all the other little things that make it so it will pass Amazon review. Binding type: paperback. (standard) Interior Type: Black & White (I'm assuming this just means text type?) (yup. Some people do color. I wouldn't. Shoots the cost WAY up.) Paper Type: white paper. (you want cream paper, not white, if you are publishing fiction. Cream is standard for fiction. White is standard for non fiction.) Reading Direction: left to right. Yes. Measurement Units: Inches Interior Trim Size: 6 x 9 in (which I've read is standard) This is what I use because the books in my series vary in length, but many people go a little smaller. For shorter books in the range you are talking, this will be a thin 1 cm ish book. If you want a thicker book, pick a smaller trim size. Page Count: 300 (although this is a guess) This depends on what font and spacing you choose. My 86K word book at that trim size was 280 pages. My 81K book was 259 pages.
