Like many manufacturers, KraftMaid makes different grades of cabinets for different markets. When we were looking and pricing out, their Vantage cabinets were only available from kitchen supply houses. It was a good box, and we were looking for quarter sawn oak in a Shaker look. Their fronts were solid oak, except that the panels were some kind of composite with a veneer. I didn't mind that, but they're not solid wood, like the cabinets we eventually bought. In a word, yes. We bought our small bungalow about 12 years ago. The previous owner had redone the cabinets w Kraftmade cabinets from Home Depot. I only found this out cuz there was a label stapled inside someplace. I used the included specs to color and style match some additional cabs during our remodel. It was a super easy process. And now that our new cabinets have had a few years of air exposure, they all look identical. More on reddit.com

September 11, 2022We just bought Kraftmaid cabinets from HD. They were 30% off, but still over 20k just for cabinets, no install or appliances. The sale ends tomorrow and I still have time to cancel. I just heard prices are negotiable on large purchases at Home Depot. Is this true?
The 30% off if you spend over $10k on cabinets has been going on for over a year at Home Depot and lowes. Every time it “ends” it just starts back up again. We had the same sale 6 years ago too when we got cabinets into our old house. Their install prices aren’t bad though because if they do the install you don’t have to pay taxes on the cabinets, so it almost cancels itself out. You should have them quote you at least because it might be worth it. Last time we had Lowes do our install and they did so much better than the private guy we hired this time and they take care of going back and forth with Lowes for the damaged cabinets. They will also put on the handles included in the price as long as you have them at the time of install (at least they did before, not sure if it’s changed). This time has been a huge headache compared to last time and I wish I had had Lowes do the install again. More on reddit.com

Good quality cabinets. Defects and issues are rare. But as an installer, they're not the easiest. I can't quite put my finger on it. It's always an extra puzzle. I guess the point I'm making is make sure your installer is good. Or at least familiar with Kraftmaid.

New build home - has anyone ever used KraftMaid custom cabinets?? Pros? Cons? I’m frustrated with the cabinet guy my builder uses- I really want quartersawn oak or oak cabinets - solid wood. This guy only orders from one distributor with no natural wood choices.
I’d love some input/ suggestions?!

I used the KraftMaid big-box-store line, I'm perfectly happy with it. I got solid oak doors, so that's definitely a KraftMain option, but the inside was either plywood or MDF. Frankly, you want engineered lumber (ideally plywood rather than MDF) for the cabinet interiors and boxes, because it has better dimensional stability. Solid wood will shrink and swell with humidity and temperature, and combining that with tight tolerances and precision measurements isn't usually a good idea.

Mine are almost 20 years old. We had the two basket trashcan mechanical rack go about three years ago. Called the HD we purchased from, they help on the call to kraftmade. New unit arrived in 2 weeks, took about an hour to install. If you have them demo and install they probably won’t cut a break on labor. They do have sales on cabinets at times. Usually it’s something like buy four cabinets and get the sink cabinet free or a 10% off.
