How can i control my Nvidia gpu fans? - Linux Mint Forums
May 1, 2021 - sudo nvidia-xconfig -a –cool-bits=28 the cool-bits=4 didn't work anymore. Thank you sooo much!!!! have a nice day. ... Tomzai wrote: Sat May 01, 2021 6:52 pm I don't want my gpu be grilling at constant 50*C. That's a very reasonable temp for an NVIDIA GPU. Yeah, it's nothing I would worry about. even a CPU I would not worry that much either as it's not like it's outright bad for it at that temp for a idle (although if a CPU idle's at 50c, it's probably going to be running a bit on the hotter side once under load though I suspect.

Can't control fan speeds in Linux Mint 22.1 Xia - Linux Mint Forums
It's possible that your hardware is not fully supported (or your motherboard is made for Windows and does not play nicely with the Linux kernel); you'll have to control fan speeds from your motherboard BIOS. That's what most of us do. Most modern motherboards allow for fan speed curve settings ...

Nivida Gpu fans not spinning
Hi. Generally GPU fans do not spin until they need to. Try putting a load on the GPU (play a game for example). You can monitor the temps by running the following command in the terminal: watch -n 2 nvidia-smi You can also manually control the fans in "NVIDIA X Server Settings" application under "Thermal Settings". You should have this app if you installed NVIDIA proprietary drivers via Driver Manager. More on reddit.com

gpu fan speed control linux nvidia wont stick - Linux Mint Forums
October 2, 2020 - If that is true then you will not be able to alter the fan speed. I made a small script file that I put into a folder in my home directory named bin (small b) #! /bin/bash # to set GPU fan speed nvidia-settings -a "[gpu:0]/GPUFanControlState=1" -a "[fan:0]/GPUTargetFanSpeed=85" exit 1 I named it fan-speed and saved it. This example sets the speed to 85% I then added the script to the “start up” programs, and told it to run at start up. This works for me, but may be useless for your needs.

Fan-control for linux mint - Linux Mint Forums
When the fans run at 100%, you get a headache very quickly.... It doesn't mean anything that it works in Windows. There are open source implementations of both IPMI and BMC available for Linux, which tells me the standard implementation doesn't work in Linux. These are probably reverse engineered and I can't vouch for how well they work. And looking at these sites, setting them up is not trivial: https://openipmi.sourceforge.io/ https://github.com/openbmc/openbmc Why don't you post some proper system info (system reports > system information) and maybe see if there's another fix?

Fan-Control - no Fans detected - Linux Mint Forums
September 20, 2024 - I have spent a couple of hours today fitting two extra fans to the rear of the case as intakes. This has made a large improvement. The top of the case is basically cold and the GPU temp has dropped to 60c. A drop of 10 degrees. The case is now very much positive pressure. Unfortunately my computer was designed and built for Windows and as such was fitted with a Corsair ICU Commander X. As windows is NOT installed the Corsair ICU still seems to have control of the fans.

nvidia-settings fan speed - Linux Mint Forums
March 18, 2019 - But I'm really unimpressed by nowadays quality control. I'll keep you posted here, if I manage to resolve it somehow. Thanks! ... If you haven't done so yet, definitely try the 4.18 kernel. See my previous message in this thread. r/linuxmint on Reddit: Nvidia GPU Fan Curve Control
January 18, 2026 -

New to Linux, extremely happy with it so far. Question: does anyone have recommendations for a program to control their Nvidia GPU fan behavior? My fans will repeatedly kick in and kick off at my GPU's idling temperature. Nvidia Settings > Thermal Settings only goes so far. I'm essentially looking for a Precision X1 replacement. I'm using a 3060 ti.

It seems like GWE was the best solution until the dev switched to AMD, are there any actively maintained replacements?

I've heard some people recommend Cooler Control, but I get the sense it's almost overkill for what I'm trying to do. I've also seen some mention about using BIOS, am I correct that this is only for CPU and (possibly) case fans?

I appreciate any suggestions!

Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon: Fan not working! - Linux Mint Forums
February 12, 2021 - The thermal junction limit is 100°C for your processor so the fan should initially kick in around 60°C depending on the fan control setting in the firmware. Check if it's on Normal or Silent. If you want it to run sooner, change it to Normal. can you tell me how to do it?

r/linuxmint on Reddit: AMD GPU Adaptive Fan controls
May 25, 2023 -

I abandoned the Window-ship and am now sailing steadily with Mint Cinnamon 21.1.

Everything is running surprisingly well with little to no configuration, which is great, however I found that running games through Steam causes the fans to max out their RPM for some reason. Another game running natively on Linux with equal graphics doesn't. The fans behave as they should, meaning it'll adapt to strain but generally speaking runs very quiet.

I seem to recall a thread that had the same topic discussed with a solution but I cannot find it. Googling about I found one video that had a tool that allowed you to set fan RPMs manually but they're not adaptive.

Running the following setup: Asus Prime B660M-A D4 Intel i3 12000F MSI Radeon RX 6600 XT 32 gigaram of some European brand I can't remember at the time
