Hey everyone!
I’ve got an old Mac Pro (Mid 2012) tower that I recently powered on, and it still works perfectly. I’m trying to figure out what it might be worth and whether it’s worth selling, upgrading, or holding onto for future use.
Here are the specs:
Mac Pro (Mid 2012) Processor: 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon RAM: 12 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB Storage: It has a hard drive (unsure of the exact size) It’s in good condition with some minor wear on the exterior but nothing major.
I’ve seen mixed opinions online — some say these machines have nostalgic value, while others say they’re not worth much due to their age.
Could anyone help me with:
A rough estimate of what this Mac Pro might be worth on the used market? Whether it’s worth upgrading (like adding more RAM or an SSD)? If there’s any demand for these towers from collectors, tinkerers, or anyone else?
Note, I am in Australia, I'm not sure that the market would be that big for these compared to Europe or USA.
I appreciate any advice or insights you have! Thanks in advance!
I'm looking at the 2009 Xeon X5482 (Harpertown/Penryn) series to replace my 2006 quad core 2.66 model w/Snow Leopard. Yep that's old!!!
My start up drive shows logo and the spin but then shows orange stripes on the screen and goes nowhere after that. This machine has worked great for years. Not sure what happened and have tried all the keys and tricks and still no go.
I have a mac mini 2012 i5 I got in December just so I could get on the internet, but I'll will have to buy those extra cables just to connect to the Firewire on the tower to maybe look inside, really not sure if Mojave will let me look inside the tower. I would hate to waste the money on those cables I've already priced when I could upgrade quite a bit for the newer model.
So question is as a replacement would you pay $250 for it as my workstation for FCP and PS4? It comes with Lion but I have the mini with Mojove to get on the web for use.
Thanks for any help and this is my first post here.
