r/iPadPro on Reddit: Magic Mouse on ipad
July 18, 2023 -

So for the past year I’ve used my Ipad Pro as my main computer (not only computer) and while there are many things I like about it, there’s one thing that I absolutely hate, which is the mouse experience with my Logitech mouse.

It feels painfully laggy, slow and imprecise. I don‘t understand why but it’s almost unusable. Scrolling with the wheel, especially, is a torture. You need scroll for hours to move the page down just a bit, and it never stops where you want it to stop.

I wonder, is this something that happens only because I use a Logitech mouse? Will it improve if I get the Apple Magic Mouse? I’m not willing to buy it unless I’m sure it’ll work better…

I like the experience of the trackpad on the magic keyboard, but to be honest I‘m not a fan of using a trackpad, I prefer a mouse.

Thanks, I appreciate the help.

I have the Logitech MX keys mini, Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse for my setup. I also have other mouse that I use for my main computer that are logitech. With that said, I use the Magic Mouse exclusively for my iPad. Here are my thoughts. Pros: -the gestures for scrolling, going back and home are amazing and really make the user experience worthy -it is very sleek and portable, making it easy to store in my carry case. -no lag on the iPad when using it Cons: -the charging port is in a horrible spot making this awkward for charging but fortunately the battery lasts so long you will rarely have to charge it -although it is sleek and portable, the ergonomics are compromised. I do not use my iPad for extensive heavy work so I have not gotten to a point where my hands have fatigued -will only work with your apple devices so if you are wanting to use this in conjunction with a windows laptop or computer, it’s not an option.

I like the MM2 on the iPad. It’s very smooth and gestures work wel. No delay either. It’s a nice inbetween of a mouse and trackpad. The downside would be if you need a clickable scroll wheel, or scroll while selecting something. And it’s not comfortable for your hand when using for a while. Charging isn’t an issue. I think 2 mins of charging would last hours, in case you forgot to charge. But the battery lasts really long when full so it’s unlikely you get into that scenario. But is it worth the money? Probably not. But hey we already use some of the most expensive tech, why not add an expensive mouse too lmao. I’d suggest try to test a MM if possible. Like from someone you know or at Apple Store. Of if return is possible. Cause I like the MM but it’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea.

Connect a mouse to iPad - Apple Support
You can connect Magic Mouse, another Bluetooth® mouse, or a USB mouse to your iPad. Note: Mouse devices are sold separately. Not all mouse devices are fully compatible with all models of iPad. For Magic Mouse, make sure the mouse is turned on and charged.

Is the Magic Mouse better than the iPad's Magic Keyboard trackpad?
It depends on your preference. The Magic Keyboard's trackpad is integrated with gestures and is great for users who prefer a laptop-like experience. The Magic Mouse offers more precision and a traditional feel, ideal for those who prefer a standalone mouse with smooth scrolling capabilities.
