Just a note of caution about MW, their people work on commission and they can be a little pushy trying to get you to buy more than you came in for. Also, their tailoring service are notoriously bad! Also, their styles seem to be a little older and when they try to look trendy, it looks like they’re trying too hard. I’d go with the Macy’s option. If you happen to catch a good sale, you might find a Calvin Klein or dkny suit. Probably have enough in your budget for a couple. Answer from JMCrown on reddit.com

500 dollars to spend at Men's Warehouse, what should I look for?

Unfortunately, from what I can find the Bar III suits only go up to a size 46, I'm at least a 50L

Men's wearhouse SUITS/OUTWEAR QUALITY IS TERRIBLE(from an employee)
This is not new information. As someone with sight, touch, and taste, I am also certified to say that Men’s Wearhouse is the lowest tier of suit store, and certifiably awful. More on reddit.com

Why do people recommend suit supply over Men’s Wearhouse? More specifically, for a tuxedo purchase
I would suggest going with neither. More expensive suits use nicer fabrics, have canvassing vs fusing, and exhibit all around better craftsmanship. Also, you are typically getting a better cut (that is, the design) garment when you're paying more. Men's Wearhouse is sort of known for being low end, poor fitting suits. I personally don't think the Suit Supply cut looks good, and I think most Made To Measure options aren't worth it, since you are at the mercy of the fitter's eye, and even expensive ones can turn out very poorly, with them often times being too tight. In that price range, I would suggest Spier and Mackay . They have tasteful designs, use good mills, and the contemporary cut is a more classic fit. More on reddit.com

What's your take on men's wearhouse?
Pretty bad. Spier and Mackay is the best place for budget friendly tailored clothes. More on reddit.com

I started working for Men's wearhouse a year ago and as a top sales person for the region(who unfortunately makes no commission) im pretty sure I'm certified to say that the quality is garbage. Suits and outwear is garbage. The only quality thing you can buy is the Joseph abboud line(made in America by the union) I've seen the worst in clothing after 1 wash it's gone. Full polyester material and they call this quality... And they sell it for 450$. I would recommend going to Jos A Bank they have some hope.

r/malefashionadvice on Reddit: 500 dollars to spend at Men's Warehouse, what should I look for?
December 14, 2017 -

Hi!

I was awarded a 500 dollar "professional attire" grant from my university. We have to shop at Mens Warehouse, Macy's, or a local suit store to spend this stipend. I tried going the local route, and was offered one of two options by the store: Two Ferrecci suits and a Ferrecci dress shirt for 500, or a single London Fog suit (with nothing else) for 500. I chose the former. They charged the university, only for me to show up and them to say "Oh, Ferrecci didn't have anything in your size, so you're getting the London Fog." Given that they didn't contact me at all about this change (and STILL charged the university) I'm pretty much done with them.

So now I consider my only realistic option to be Men's Warehouse. I know I'm not getting the world's best suit within my budget, but I'm hoping to get a buy one, get one deal. My local MW about 100 suits in the 250-400 dollar range (I'd also love to take advantage of their 3 dress shirts for 99 deal) that are on the BOGO deal. What should I look for in terms of brand, what to avoid, etc.? (And yes, I know tailoring is key)

Thank you!

Edit: I'm gonna stress again that I'm really not looking at Macy's. The one near me has very little in my size and doesn't always seem to run the great promotions.

Alrighty - let's see what we can do.

Qualifications: I worked at Men's Wearhouse (hourly, then sales, then management) for six years, and still keep a collegial relationship with my old coworkers, though I've moved on to the higher-end stuff. I do not work for them, and have no financial interests in the company (which is good, considering the way their stock has been...)

The good news - they'll have lots of styles in your size. I'm working under the assumption that you have a non-slim build; let me know if that's not the case. The first question I need to ask is: what's the condition of your wardrobe relative to your needs (i.e., how often do you need to wear a suit for work, and how many do you currently own)? Advice will vary based on whether you' really need as many decent suits as possible, vs 1-2 pretty good ones.

The best suits available at MW are Joseph Abboud (not JOE, just plain old Joseph Abboud). They are remarkably well-made for the price - all Italian fabrics from good mills, half-canvassed, and made by union labor in Massachusetts. They stack up well against something from SuitSupply or a lower end Brooks Brothers rig. There are two main fits - you should check the Modern (which is actually aggressively normal in its cut, not significantly slim at all) and see what size you are.
Assuming you're looking to stay as close to $500 as possible, you can't get one at full price, and they're not available as BOGOFree (just BOGOHalfPrice). However - there are always a ton of them on clearance. I've included a link to the best one I found online from a cursory search - https://www.menswearhouse.com/p/joseph-abboud-blue-check-modern-fit-suit-38WM38WN92 . In an ideal world, if you aren't in a rush, you should wait and see if they run an X% off clearance sale, which would apply. If you find a clearance style in a local store that's not in your size, they likely can get it from another store.

If, on the other hand, you need as many suits as possible, then there are a couple of brands worth checking - Calvin Klein (the regular "Slim" fit is not actually slim cut, and works well for bigger guys; avoid the "Extreme Slim" line), Ralph Lauren (small selection), and Pronto Uomo Platinum Suit Separates (another MW house brand, but reasonably decent and all-wool). You're still not going to use BOGO Free - the suits listed are all eligible, but it's not the best deal. Typically, MW rotates through a menu of "Designer Suit Sales", in which brands A, B, and C are $250, or $279, or $300, or whatever, and everything else is BOGO. (Today, it's Perry Ellis, JOE, and Ben Sherman - skip'em.) Usually, you can find one of those three on sale for between $200-$330 dollars with patience, which is significantly better than $700 for two. If you time it right, get yourself two suits off that, and pony up $100 for three dress shirts if you need 'em.
