Microsoft Store vs Minecraft Website Help!
For PC only... the cheaper option (available from the "website" as well, just called "Minecraft" rather than "Minecraft Deluxe") excludes some downloadable content from the Marketplace - which is where the extra cost goes. Otherwise the game is identical, and you get Java Edition and Bedrock Edition for one price. Beware accidentally buying the Console version, if you are not using a Console. More on reddit.com

r/Minecraft on Reddit: Microsoft Store vs Minecraft Website Help!
February 27, 2024 -

Hello! I finally decided to buy Minecraft (the legit copy) and I noticed that there's two ways which is either through the website or on Microsoft store.

Now I've seen a few older posts saying go for the website if you want java and all that, but I noticed that both the site and the store have Java and bedrock included so I guess those posts are outdated.

Only difference that I can see from the two is that buying from the Microsoft store is cheaper (like 24ish USD), other than that both include Java and Bedrock edition.

The behavior matches a mismatched-accounts scenario between the Microsoft Store account (which owns the Bedrock license) and the Xbox/Minecraft playing account.

To avoid being asked to buy again and to stop needing two accounts signed in at once, the game needs to be run with a consistent identity strategy:

  1. Decide which Microsoft account should be the purchasing account (the one that actually owns Minecraft for Windows/Bedrock in Microsoft Store order history).
  2. On Windows 10, open the Microsoft Store app and sign out, then sign back in with that purchasing account only.
  3. In the Xbox app/Xbox Game Bar, sign out and sign back in with the same Microsoft account if the goal is to keep purchases and play identity aligned.
  4. Launch Minecraft for Windows from the Microsoft Store “My Library” section so it uses the Store account that owns the license.

If the design of the game or services assumes that the Xbox account and Store account are the same, then both apps (Microsoft Store and Xbox) must be signed into the same Microsoft account; otherwise, the game can treat the Store account as the payer and the Xbox account as the playing identity, but it must explicitly support that mismatched scenario.

If, after aligning accounts as above, the Store still shows only a “Buy” button and no “Install” option for Minecraft for Windows on the account believed to own it, then the Bedrock license is not currently associated with that Microsoft account, and support would be required to review purchase history and account ownership.

Hello Alfonso Melgoza,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Before we proceed, can you please check on your Microsoft account order history to see if there is still the order history of the claim on your current account?

In the meantime, here are a few steps you can check.

  • Type "Credentials manager" in the search bar and press Enter.
  • Go to Windows Credentials.
  • Remove all entries related to the Minecraft Launcher, your 2 accounts and any entries contain "Xbl" in it.
  • Restart your computer and sign in again.

I'm waiting for your reply.

Hi HEHE hehe,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A!

It's been a while since you posted this issue. I'm wondering if any of the suggestions given by the Q&A Assist above helped, and if you have successfully downloaded Minecraft yet at this point? If not, I have a few different paths that maybe you would like to try out:

1 - Repair Gaming Services

  • Right‑click Start > PowerShell/Terminal (Admin)
  • Run the following commands, one by one:
    • get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
    • get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServicesNet | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
  • Restart your PC > press Win + R > enter: ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
  • When the page is opened, click Install > wait for it to fully complete
  • Open Microsoft Store and try to install Minecraft Launcher again.

2 - Test with a new profile

  • Open Settings > Accounts > create a new local account
  • Sign into it > try to download Minecraft Launcher.
  • If it works, your old profile is corrupted.
  • Move your data to this account.

Unfortunately, since Windows 10 has since out of support, you cannot try in-place upgrade or clean install with official edition. If your PC is qualified for upgrade, you may look into those more nuclear options.

The error code '0x80070005' typically indicates a permissions issue, which means that the Microsoft Store may not have the necessary permissions to access the folder where it is trying to install Minecraft. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

  1. Check Permissions: Ensure that your user account has the necessary permissions for the C drive. You can do this by right-clicking on the C drive, selecting 'Properties', then going to the 'Security' tab. Make sure your user account has full control.
  2. Run Microsoft Store as Administrator: Try running the Microsoft Store as an administrator. Right-click on the Microsoft Store icon and select 'Run as administrator'. Then attempt to download Minecraft again.
  3. Disable Antivirus/Firewall Temporarily: Sometimes, antivirus software or firewall settings can block installations. Temporarily disable them and try downloading Minecraft again.
  4. Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows is up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
  5. Reset Microsoft Store: You can reset the Microsoft Store by going to Settings > Apps > Apps & features, finding Microsoft Store, clicking on it, and selecting 'Advanced options'. From there, click 'Reset'.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to check if there are any specific policies or configurations that might be blocking the installation of Minecraft.
