Hey everybody,

I'm hoping to get some opinions on this bbq (https://www.costco.ca/napoleon-rogue-pro-625-propane-gas-bbq-with-cover.product.4000327526.html) or alternatives.

I am looking for a bbq to use here in Canada that will be placed on my balcony at my house. The city requirements here state we can't have a charcoal bbq on the balcony so I was looking for a decent propane bbq that will survive Canadian winters if left on the balcony. I was considering getting a natural gas model as I have a natural gas point just below the balcony on my patio and it would be relatively simple to get it run up onto balcony but after reading natural gas bbq's don't get as hot as propane am leaning back on the propane models.

I know Costco models for BBQ's have custom sku's so they differ slightly from the official models, just curious, has anyone purchased one of these from Costco? Any ideas on what I'd be missing out on by buying the Costco model vs direct from Napoleon? How is the heat distribution on it? I generally bbq about 5 times a week, mainly burgers, chicken thighs, and steaks.

I haven't purchased one of these from Costco, but I have purchased the Phantom 500 for natural gas. I have had no issues reaching 650* when using all 4 burners. This has been plenty for my needs. The only downside I see with it being piped direct is that you never run out of gas... even when you forget to turn it off. That has made me love the lit knobs. Thought those knobs were a bit flashy and unnecessary until the first time I was back inside enjoying my dinner and could look out to confirm I turned everything off without getting up.

Your condo might also have rules about propane tanks; check with your property manager. Natural gas doesn't heat up quite as quickly as propane, but still gets plenty hot. You can't beat the convenience of natural gas. Unfortunately Costco Canada doesn't offer much selection for natural gas grills. Costco pricing is fantastic and they usually bundle accessories or at least a cover.

April 3, 2024 - My time is worth $225/hr, so this $1,450 grill was not inexpensive. But the result was only, meh? How do we justify these Chinese made overpriced products? I may just return to Costco and get my $1000 back. Or keep it if my wife wants me serving up crappy BBQ results.
