Is Norton Antivirus Actually Bad?
Norton is a rip off and bloated mess. I know here in Australia it’s $100 AUD a year just for an okay antivirus that has added in features like cryptominers with insane royalty rates, who in their right mind would pay for this when there are better options that are much cheaper? Now I don’t use antivirus because I’m either on Linux or a custom Windows iso which completely removes Windows Defender but for cheaper options that are objectively better you should look at Kaspersky, Bitdefender and ESET nod32. Subscription usually means getting all the updates. With subscription expired, it probably doesn't update anymore, but still works with whatever updates it got before that. They might give a certain period so they don't leave you entirely unprotected, but after some time it'll stop working entirely. It's how antiviruses usually work when it comes to subscription.

First, basically every major AV has some tier that has a VPN bundled with it, so you don't need to narrow your choices to these two. Second, don't use a VPN from an AV. You can get great, free AVs from ProtonVPN or Windscribe and they'll be far more reliable. See if you even need to spend money on an AV; have a look at Kaspersky Security Cloud Free (or Kaspersky Free, depending on where you are in the world), or alternatively Bitdefender Antivirus Free. If you do want a paid AV, I'd suggest you check ESET Internet Security, it's one of the lightest AVs at the moment, next to Kaspersky, and offers great protection. Other good options are Emsisoft, Sophos, and Bitdefender. Obviously just use one. They all have free trials, try them and see. More on reddit.com

Just don't use Norton, Just use Bitdefender, or Kaspersky [both paid or free]. Norton is just some basic average money-grabbing AV. Bitdefender and Kaspersky are cheap too. They offer much better protection than Norton plus I don't think they charge a lot for auto-renewal or they probably don't charge you. They're also one of the best AVs in the market. Been using Norton since I got my laptop. So far I think it's been doing its job well enough, though I recently discovered that apparently it's sort of a meme that it sucks (at least what my friends told me)?
Looked it up and most of the antivirus "review sites" give glowing reviews of Norton but some older posts on reddit and stuff have people complaining about how it does the bare minimum, or is difficult to uninstall etc.
So is Norton actually bad at protecting my PC or is just an old meme?
