At least for me, it is the quality. If you buy 250$ worth of jeans you want them to last, all my Nudies have failed me after only 1-1.5 years. Not in the seams of anything but the fabric itself seems to just break down on all my Nudies. However, their fits are really good for the most part and that is why I keep buying them (and the fact that they are so common in Sweden that you can 'always' get good deals on them). I'm relatively new to raw denim, but have experimented with APCs, Raleigh Denim, and Nudie Jeans. Personally, the Nudies are the most comfortable for me, so why do they get such a bad reputation?

I have read about Blackhorse Lane Ateliers and Nudie Jeans Co. Please share experiences with these companies, or other companies as well. Please explain the shipping costs & your customer service experiences, too.

Blackhorse price range is $337 to $410 USD before shipping. Located in London. Read endorsement.

Nudie range is $185 to $250 USD before shipping. Locations all over the world, including Los Angeles.

In spite of the dumb name, I lean towards Nudie because of (1) price & (2) shipping to Los Angeles instead of London, for repairs.

The goal: buy 1 Brand new pair of jeans that'll last me 10 years minimum. Without ripping at the knees, crotch, or pockets. Includes free repairs. (Customer pays for shipping.)

Thank you for your input, it is helpful & appreciated.

Nudie jeans is, in my experience and my partner’s experience, not great. Yes they offer lifetime repairs and all that, but the jeans stretch out and get so thin they’re literally see through and falling off of you after only a year of wear (not much you can really do to repair that). The “repairs” are really obvious big patches, which might be fine depending on your style but they’re definitely supposed to look more grungy. There are certain types of jeans they carry that are billed as being more durable and those might last better but are literally as stiff as cardboard a long time before they get more comfortable. I haven’t tried these but if you’re considering them at all you could try that

Jeans are such an interesting subject, because there are two very different, very distinct areas in which jeans exist: they are both high end fashion, and they are rough and tumble wear. If you are looking for fashionable jeans, durability is going to suffer, because they are optimized for fit, fashion, style, and comfort. They will be made out of different denims, because they will do the things that the designers want them to do. The look now is much more important than the look in 5 years because both the designer expects that you will buy their next season jeans next season. For rough and tumble wear, jeans tend to be utilitarian and course. They are not fashionable, but they are functional. The goal of the jeans is to last until you destroy them. This is where brands like Wrangler and Lee come in at. (Although there are certain circles in which Wrangler is highly fashionable, simply because it is utilitarian, and wearing utilitarian clothing is the fashion statement that they are making.) It has been my experience that fashionable jeans do not last well. It has been my experience that utilitarian jeans tend to last better. Here's a video where Project Farm tests utilitarian jeans to the point of destruction, along with a few pairs of more fashionable mid-level designer jeans. Wrangler and Lee dominate, and George (yes, the Walmart house brand) puts in a very, very respectable showing. I haven't tried Blackhorse or Nudie jeans. But my ignorant assumption is that if you spent half as much on multiple pairs of Wrangler or George jeans, you'd have pants for longer.

Nudie used to be my go to brand for somelike like 10 years now. But lately I have had to go back to Levis. The prices have skyrocketed (from 120 to over 150 in just a couple of years), sizing has become super inconsistent and the quality has visibly degrades. I have Nudies from ten years ago that still fit me and look great while others have just deformed, shrunk, or had massive damage that requires unsightly patches. Anyone else had the same experience?

I’m almost 2 years into wearing my Nudie jeans almost daily and yeah they’ve been holding up perfectly. I used to get Levi’s which would fall apart in 3 months. Reddit then all seemed to recommend Uniqlo jeans so I gave them a shot. They lasted longer than Levi’s… only to all fall apart after 6 months.

Because im 197cm (6’5) i often have a hard time finding pants. I usually wear 36x36 in most jeans, but i was just wondering if nudie jeans are big/small in sizing or whatever.

Thank you for the help:)

Need a pair of Straight Legs jeans for "work at the office "days

Is Nudie Jeans still worth the $250ish price tag? I would need to go raw/dry because there is no dark enough washed blue jeans in Gritty Jackson cut.

I read some thing about the quality went down. I tired a pair of washed Gritty Jackson in person and the wash looks tacky.

The Helmut Lang Uniqlo doesn't come in my size.

Thanks!

I have 2 pairs of Nudies in heavy rotation (wearing 3-5 days a week in slightly cooler months) and couldn’t be happier with them. I used to wear through a pair of jeans (Jeans West, Uniqlo, General Pants/Myer brands) every 12 months or so and got sick of buying cheap crap so sprung for the Nudies. Been about 4 years now and both pairs are holding up extremely well. You can sometimes find them on sale in DJs but I wouldn’t hesitate buying at full price if I was looking for a new pair. Pretty sure they still have a free repair service on all their jeans, and a 20% discount if you trade in your old pair. Not a bad deal for long-term.

tbh the denim enthusiasts on r/rawdenim would probably tell you that Nudie's quality has never been that great, same story with other $250ish brands like Naked & Famous and APC. But for the average person who isn't wearing their jeans 24/7 for sick fadez, I'm sure they're probably fine? I got some Tellason jeans from Maplestore in Sydney for $300. The quality seems good in hand BUT I have to admit I haven't worn them enough to attest to their durability. When you go above $300 you enter the territory of specialist Japanese brands, Levi's Vintage, etc. Whether or not paying more is worth it is subjective and probably depends on how often you plan on wearing your jeans. Hard to say where the law of diminishing returns kicks in. For under $250 I can't really think of that many raw options tbh. There's Uniqlo mainline selvedge denim that should be in a full size run. Otherwise you'll probably have to expand your options to dark indigo rinses

r/rawdenim on Reddit: [Fit Check] Nudie Jeans - Lean Dean Dry 16 Dips
April 3, 2024 -

Hi all, my first post and first pair of raw denim jeans!

I like my jeans to fit fairly slim with a bit of give around the knee - these are good here. However, I’ve sized up 1 size on the waist, in anticipation for some shrinkage. Nudie say 4.5-6% in width and 2% inseam shrinkage.

Has anyone got experience with this denim and how much it shrinks/stretches? I feel I wouldn’t want to go any tighter in the thigh and if I size down, the jeans will shrink when washed and be too tight there.

At the moment there is a fold under my belt when worn comfortably, which is annoying.

Any advice welcome, thanks!

Hey just wanted to ask if anyones had any experience with getting their Nudies repaired for free at their repair shops?

Honestly seems a bit too good to be true so just wanted to hear about peoples experiences.

I'm quite disappointed I'm having to consider a repair this early on, I got a pair of gritty Jackson's this time last year and theres already a small tear underneath the crotch area which is only gonna get bigger. Quite surprised as Nudie market their jeans as future proof and want us to wear them for years to come yet after a year they're starting to tear and rip.

I purchased a pair of Dry Cold Black Grim Tims from Nudie about 18 months ago. I was first attracted to Nudie Jeans for their numerous fits. I often struggle to find slim fitting jeans that are not too tight around the thigh and I found that the Grim Tims were a nice fit for me.

During the time I owned these jeans I had the crotch repaired 3 times. When people say that Nudie makes low quality jeans given the exorbitant price, they’re not kidding. While the repairs were free they were done haphazardly and eventually the crotch of the pants turned into a mess of stiches and oversized patches with glue stains all over the pants inside and out. In addition to the crotch, one of the front pockets developed a hole. Nudie’s way of fixing this was to sew the pocket closed right above where the hole was. So now I am stuck with a pocket half as deep as what it once was.

This is where it gets bad…

Last month I dropped my jeans off at the Nudie Repair Store to get the crotch repaired. The guy handling the repair told me it’d be about 1-2 weeks before they were done. Three weeks go by and I call to see if my pants have been repaired. Nope. Was told repairs usually take 3 weeks and I’ll get an email when they’re done. 4 weeks go by so I call once again. I give the employee my name and the repair ticket #, they put me on hold to check on the pants. The guy gets back on the line and tells me they’re still not done but will be escalated to be processed asap BUT it’ll still be another 4 days because they don’t do repairs on the weekends.

I thought this was a bit ridiculous so the following day (Sunday) I stop by the store to speak to a manager in person. First thing I noticed upon arrival, there’s a woman repairing jeans even though I was told they don’t do repairs on weekends. After speaking to one of the employees he informs me that they had lost my pants and I need to wait until Tuesday because the manager was not in that day and he wanted to handle the situation himself. They lost my pants at a store where they do repairs in house.

At this point I was even more frustrated and wanted to speak to the manager myself in order to explain the number of hoops they made me jump through. For instance, when I called the second time and was put on hold the guy lied to me and should have just told me then that my pants were lost.

Finally, this past week I find time to go to the store to speak to the store manager. He apologizes and replaces the jeans. I try to explain that 18 months of wear in jeans gives them character and that replacing them was okay but it’d be nice to show a bit more care and maybe offer an upgraded pair of jeans, a partial refund, a discount on a future purchase or literally anything. He replied apathetically, “Sorry, that’s just how we handle this situation." And I was sent on my way.

The kind of service I experienced is pretty shitty for customer retention and Nudie needs to reevaluation how they handle situations like this. I also encourage anyone considering buying some Nudies to take some time to reevaluate that decision.

TL;DR Nudie spent 2 weeks lying about the status of pants I brought in to be repaired before finally admitting they had lost them.
