I know this gets asked a lot but I’m overwhelmed by what features to get in a nursing chair. Since this is a more expensive purchase i dont want to end up with one i dont like
Please recommend your favorite chair and what features you love about it
Additional questions I have:
Does anyone find the rocking feature useful?
I know people say get one that reclines, but does it make you fall asleep on it too easily?
What is the benefit of a glider, I’m a bit confused by the purpose of having a chair that glides but doesn’t rock? Does the gliding soothe the baby?
Thank you!
I'm struggling to find a rocking chair that is both comfortable and affordable. I didn't realize how expensive they could get until I started looking around, it seems like the price points are very polarized, either it is extremely cheap and low quality, or they work well but cost more than the hospital bill or first year of diapers...with little to no in between. I see a lot of posts with people saying you need one that:
Swivels 360 and rocks
Has good cushioning
Is tall enough to rest your head back
Doesn't make a ton of noise
Can be cleaned easily
Has a reclining feature that doesnt require a donkey kick to make the feet go up and down
....and so on and I'm...overwhelmed. It looks like anything close to that description is four figures in price, which I'm surprised anyone can afford. I started by looking at some classic wooden gliders, but for most of them the reviews say they aren't comfortable or break really easily. Has that been most people's experience? Is it worth it to splurge on something better? And if so, what features (either on that list above or not) are actually important/worth the money? And where is it ok to compromise/sacrifice if it means bringing the price down by a few hundred bucks? Any specific chair recommendations that people love, or just general recommendations of places to look?
Lastly, how much do you actually use the rocker? It seems like opinions vary, some folks say it rarely gets used while others say the practically lived in them 24/7. Parents who have been through this process....what are your thoughts? I know that's a ton of questions so thanks for bearing with me, I'm just in a mini panic mode over here <3
Edit: So many responses, thank you all for the wonderful advice! I'm going to look around and see what some nicer secondhand options are (and what cleaning services are available in our area), but based on how far away our couch is from the nursery, the layout of the room, and the fact that we have a place to put the chair if we decide to move it out, I think we will at least still plan to get one before baby arrives since you never know what baby will be like and I'd rather avoid the post-birth scramble. Odds are we'll probably end up getting either a nice one secondhand (I'm in love with the Babyletto Kiwi but new is out of our price range) or one of the Costco/Walmart/Amazon mid-range chairs folks suggested that have worked well. It is also very reassuring to hear that you can get by without one, so worst case we can throw it all to the wind. Thank you all so, so much!

I’m on my last baby and want a nice nursing chair, but am struggling with what to get. Rocking chair? Recliner? Something else? Do you have a favorite chair for nursing that is both functional and comfortable?
I’m 25 weeks pregnant and looking to purchase the chair for our nursery asap. Comparing options is so difficult. So many reviews are people who have barely used their chairs yet, so I’m wondering could anyone tell me if you bought a chair you ended up regretting, and for what reason(s)? Things I’m wondering about: color/staining, materials, power vs manual etc.
EDIT: Wow, thank you for all the responses! I wanted to make a quick decision on this since tariffs will be raising furniture prices significantly soon. I just purchased the Chita Tracee Power Swivel Glider Recliner in faux leather, camel color. My husband is more comfortable investing in a chair that will be easier to keep clean and he ain’t wrong! I’ve seen lots of good things about this chair so hopefully it works out for us (fingers crossed) It’s currently on sale for about $550
We have my grandfathers old glider in the nursery. While it’s a sweet sentiment, it’s time for the goddamn thing to go in the woodchipper… as I sit here nursing my sick 6 month old, this thing is about as comfortable as sitting on the Iron Throne looks. The bougier the better- I’m all about the plush splurge- I wish someone would have told us how much time we’d spend in this one chair!
I anticipate I’ll be spending a lot of time in it when baby comes so I’m willing to spend the money to invest in a good one. I have low back problems so looking for something firm/comfortable that also reclines.
Also- recommendation on color? I love the white/lighter colors but I’m guessing those get dirty fast and might be hard to clean? Thanks!!
I'm an FTP and considering getting the Nurture& Glider Plus in the boucle fabric (white), but my husband is concerned that it will get stained and look terrible very quickly. Does anyone have experience with white (or other very light colored) nursery chairs? I'm also considering the Babyletto Kiwi in a light color, but it doesn't seem as comfortable and might have some suspicious fabric additives. What I really wanted was the Pottery Barn Paxton chair but it won't arrive in time 😭
As a FTM (baby boy arriving in November of this year!), I'm looking for some guidance on what to consider and think about with a nursery chair.
Why is a reclining feature important? (or not)
Why is a swivel feature important? (or not)
Pros/cons to power recline vs manual?
Ergonomic features to consider?
Is an ottoman better than a pop-out footrest? Why?
Anything else? :)
Thank you in advance!!
Title pretty much says it all. 33 weeks along, FTM with full intention of EBF.
We have a rocker/recliner already, but it's more a sentimental piece as it belonged to my husbands grandfather. It's old as, and not comfortable, I don't use it in general.
Did you buy a chair for nursing and never end up using it? Should I wait til bub is here just in case I end up not being able to BF? Did you not buy one and regret it? All opinions/anecdotes pleeease 🫶🏻
Hi all! First time parents. We’re discussing how expensive the nice recliners are like the Babyletto kiwi and the dream swivel. Everyone seems to really recommend them though. How much time did you spend in the nursery recliner? Is it really worth it to get such an expensive one? Please share your experiences!!
I’ve always felt like nursing chairs are kinda bulky and take up too much space... but honestly, my back and shoulders are dying from all the breastfeeding lately.
Just wondering... does anyone use anything that actually helps with nursing? Or if I want to upgrade my chair, how much does a good chair cost? Was it worth it?
I am looking for recommendations on a good nursing chair. The one we bought unfortunately is a complete lemon and squeeks and clanks when rocking or moving in it. It completely wakes the baby up. Completely frustrating since we spent $2000 dollars on it. It even has a new base added to it, but after a few months it started doing it again. And of course the company we bought it from is now no longer in business so we are SOL.
Hoping to find something comfortable for nursing and rocking the baby to sleep. A recliner isnt a must, but definitely looking for something upholstered.
TIA!
Trying to decide if I need a recliner/rocker or not. One of my friends says she never really used hers, nursing in bed or the living room couch instead. I’d rather save the money and not acquire another piece of furniture if it can be helped. Did you use yours?
very much aware a nursery chair isn't an absolute necessity, but i am getting slightly tired of nursing on the sofa or in bed so thought it would be nice to add a nice, comfy chair to the nursery for nursing, story time etc.
That being said - i've been looking at rockers (like the tutti bambini micah) or recliners/gliders like the obaby madison.
anyone have any experience with these or any recommendations at whats better - rocker vs glider?
Hello! I am a first time mom, due in December, and I’m looking for an electronic glider chair. I have been researching a lot but Reddit tends to give the best answers.
Things I have been considering:
I’m pretty short at 5”2’, so it would be nice to be able to have my foot to the ground to push the glider.
I feel like I need an electronic reclining mechanism, as I don’t want to deal with pushing the recliner back.
I plan on having a second kiddo in the next few years, so I’m unsure if I need a big one?
I have cats & would love to have something with a material that doesn’t hold cat hair.
I have found these four gliders:
Nature& The Glider - I love that this one has an electronic control on the headrest. Is this necessary? https://nurtureand.com/products/the-glider?variant=31716993695883
Babyletto Sigi - this looks so comfortable https://babyletto.com/products/sigi-electronic-recliner-and-glider-in-eco-performance-fabric-with-usb-port-water-repellent-stain-resistant?variant=40086541336630
Pottery barn Phoenix Power - would pick a color https://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/phoenix-swivel-recliner/?cm_src=wsipipentry&recstrat=View-View-1%7CVCB-GRP-AFF-QNT
Pottery Barn Dream Power - https://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/dream-recliner/?pkey=cnursery-chairs
Would love any other suggestions or help deciding between these 4!
I need help finding a glider chair.
I can’t find one that is under $1,000 or has good reviews. And to find one that locks in general is even harder.
Buy buy baby is (essentially) now closed, furniture stores are too expensive, Amazon has almost no reviews on any gliders and most are bad.
What gliders would you recommend that are under about $800? You can suggest something that is more if thats all you have to suggest, im just looking for affordable really. But, I don’t want something that won’t even last a year.
Hey all!
I'm 36 weeks today and nesting is in full swing. We're pretty much done with baby's room aside from organising clothes and a nursing chair is on my list. I've been considering the tutti bambini ava chair on smyths which is currently on sale for 240€ - it just seems a little steep to me?
Any advice, is a nursing chair worth it? I have been on marketplace and donedeal over the last few months but nothing stood out to me and if there was, they were nowhere near me to collect or they were already gone when I messaged!
Has anyone found any reasonable priced ones, or please correct me if I'm being dramatic and 240 isn't unreasonable!
Thanks x
