16,000 nurses on strike in NYC
I support them full heartedly and wish I could be beside them. The things bankrupting healthcare are NOT the nurses or other healthcare workers. It’s excess healthcare administrators, C-suites taking million+ paychecks, and private equity destroying everything as usual. More on reddit.com
When will it be our turn? (NYC nurses strike demanding 275K salaries)
Theyre striking for a 10% x 3 year increase not for some random spike up to 275k. Also remember these news articles are reporting the average pay for the union which includes crnas so the numbers are inflated. As I hope we all remember from biostats, they should be reporting median. The last time they striked they got 7, 6 ,5 % over 3 years... sound familiar? (The exact same as 1199 rts). Let nysna do the legwork and go support, the 1199 contract is up next. Edit: the negotiations are also trying to cut off their pension and their health benefits so its way more than just a pay strike. Doesn't sound like OP is familiar with the nyc landscape or is just ragebaiting. Nurses are under NYSNA and the rest of the union staff (RT, PA, pharmacy, housekeeping etc) are under 1199seiu. Both unions work in solidarity but the negotiations are approximately 1 year apart. More on reddit.com
NYSNA Nurses Deliver 10-Day Strike Notice at Twelve Private Sector Hospitals in New York City
Good and more power to them. Hospitals have become stupidly top heavy with administration's and not enough boots on the ground. Patient to nurse ratios are unacceptable for the pay they offer and how quickly we forgot the shit nurses and doctors went through during covid More on reddit.com
Nurses at 15 hospitals in NYC and Long Island deliver 10-day strike notices
Not saying providers are saints but every hospitalization we’ve had at Mount Sinai has been a poor nursing experience. In all cases, too many nurses mostly stood around chatting and took issue with anything we asked, as though doing the basics of their job is a burden. And believe me, we tried very hard to be kind and not be a burden; more “difficult” families received even worse treatment (by my observation). We’ve come across amazing nurses too and several anecdotes is not data, but I feel like there’s some systematic issue. Reading the comments, lionizing individual nurses is fair enough but lionizing the entire profession strikes me as naive at best. More on reddit.com

Striking Nurses Demand Fair Contracts and Immediate Reversal of Unlawful Disciplines | New York State Nurses Association
10 hours ago - Mount Sinai attempted to make examples of nurses planning to strike by firing three nurses, two of whom were new mothers. Mount Sinai unlawfully terminated these three labor and delivery nurses via voicemail. With a looming strike deadline, management tried to scapegoat nurses, citing false claims about their interference with the expensive travel nurses hired to replace them.

What to Know About the NYC Nurses’ Strike and How It Affects Hospital Patients - The New York Times
1 day ago - And union officials, for their part, claimed that one hospital illegally fired three nurses in the hours before the strike as an act of intimidation. ... On Monday night, Mount Sinai Hospital issued a statement that suggested fissures were apparent in the nurses’ ranks. “We had close to 20 percent of our nurses come to work today and put Mount Sinai patients first, and we expect more to do the same tomorrow and in the coming days,” a hospital spokeswoman, Lucia Lee, said in a statement on Monday. The nurses’ union urged the public to be skeptical of that claim.

NYC nurses strike: Negotiations remain at standstill as health care workers remain on picket line - ABC7 New York
7 hours ago - "NYSNA leadership's demand that a nurse not be terminated if found to be compromised by drugs or alcohol while on the job is another example of putting their own self-interest before patient safety," officials said. But the New York State Nurses Association said Montefiore was "blatantly mischaracterizing" one of its basic workplace proposals, which would have added protections for nurses dealing with substance use disorders and which has already been adopted in other hospitals around the state. All of the hospitals impacted by the strike have stressed that they will remain open.
