October 10, 2020 -
"If he goes in the opposite direction of/with/from us, he might lure them away."
Does it matter which word I use after direction? They all sound right to my ears, but I feel that of and from are the most correct. I can understand if someone uses with (or to), but I don't think it's correct.
Thanks in advance!

“With” would actually imply the opposite of what you probably mean - that “he” is going in the same direction as you (and you and he are both going in the opposite direction to someone else). “To” sounds most natural here (mainly because you’re talking about movement/a direction) and is probably most common, especially in American English. “From” may be used more in British English. “Of” does not sound very natural here - we do use “of” with “opposite” but it’s usually in sentences like: “Hot is the opposite of cold.”
