Need to buy a PS5 for my son as a gift for finishing primary school and I want to surprise him with something really nice. I’m hoping to find a good Black Friday deal that’s reliable and works well with our 55'' LG TV.
He’s mostly into sports and adventure games, so I want to make sure the setup runs smoothly and looks great. Should I be looking beyond the spec sheet to tell if a Black Friday deal is actually worth it or just cheap for a reason?

A ps5 is a ps5. No difference on specs for gaming unless it’s a “pro” model (better 4k performance). If it’s on a BF deal, it’s just less price because of BF. All PS5s will work well on the TV. Pro is better if you have a 4k. As for first adventure games, PS5 Spider-Man series is great. Ratchet and clank is even better imo. God of war and last of us but those are both more mature franchises.

Primary School is like the equivalent of Elementary School age here in America, right? So your kid is only about 10? The other comment suggestion Elden Ring wouldn’t be a good recommendation at all. I’d also recommend avoiding any games that are online multiplayer focused heavy games like Call of Duty, Fortnite etc. You don’t want him turning into a whiny brat. Like other comments said, any PS5 will work, doesn’t have to be a brand new Pro model either. Also remember that the PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4 games, so if newer games seem too expensive, don’t be afraid to check out the older (cheaper) PS4 library of games. As for actual game suggestions, there’s a lot of adventure games available on PlayStation. Astro Bot is a newer popular title. The Spider-Man games or Hogwarts Legacy if he likes those fandoms. No Man’s Sky is a great space exploration game if he has any interest in exploring planets. Minecraft is also a fun choice - be sure to pick up an extra controller to play local coop with him. There’s a wide variety of sports and racing games available on PlayStation, so it’s kind of hard to recommend any specific titles. For this, I’d recommend googling ‘(insert sport here) on ps4/ps5 ranked’ then see which games sound the most interesting to you and your son. Rocket League is a free arcade soccer game with a twist, which has local co-op so you could play it together.

I bought the Dead Space remake for $10. Played the original when it first came out. Haven’t played the remake though. Also finally bought RDR2 for $15. Loved the first game, never got around to the second. Both solid deals I’d say.

Batman Arkham Knight for 3,99€ was ridiculous. But the best deal I had, considering how much playtime and fun I had with it, especially when you compare it to Nintendo‘s 90€ Mario Kart World, was STEEP with every DLC for 15€. For me, who was an absolute Skate 3 Fan on the PS3, STEEP had me hooked for so many hours. My next best deal was probably FINAL FANTASY XV with every DLC for 13,99€. The initial day one version of this game was controversial, but the complete, fixed game with every DLC for 13,99€ was absolutely fun to play, I love that game.
I must have bought Plants vs. Zombies GW2 for roundabout 15€ too back then and had hundreds of hours of fun with it.
I’m not THAT of a gamer, so hundreds of hours in a game is an ABSOLUTELY HUGE amount for me.
I just want to read your best deals you purchased, because I feel like people forgot how much fun you can have for so little money. Nowadays, there’s a lot of people defending Nintendo‘s 90€ Mario Kart, while I’m here like: I play since the PS3, never bought a game at full price (60€ back then) and had thousands of hours of fun throughout my whole 1/4 of my life. How 90€ is suddenly defendable?
