We love our propane fire pit. You don't have to worry about most fire bans, propane can be easier to source than firewood, and your clothes and gear don't smell like smoke.

I would use a propane fire pit only if you need a permit for wood and cannot get it or if there’s a fire ban. Otherwise, no. I don’t see a point to bring a pit when most sites already have one or I build a fire directly on sand while at the beach Edited comment to be more clear*

Hey everyone. I’m looking for recommendations on portable raised fire pits because some places that I camp at don’t always have a fire ring to use. I don’t want propane fire pits, just something raised to burn some wood. I do not plan on cooking over it either. Ideally would like for it to fold away small or break down to a manageable size to keep inside my 4Runner when not in use. I’ve attached a photo of something similar to what I’m looking for (I may even buy that one, who knows… but wanted to hear from others before pulling the trigger). I tried searching the group but a lot of posts were for propane fire pits. Thank you!
