Mostly for women but the second location of Goodbyes has the men's stuff. - Walk over to Clement Street for croissants at Arsicault, Burmese food at Burma Superstar, aperitivo at Bettola, pasta at Pasta Supply Co., local gift shopping at Park Life and Fleetwood. I feel like most neighborhoods in the city outside of the downtown area are quiet. Like another poster says, depends on your budget but would suggest: Laurel Heights Richmond Sunset Cole Valley Presidio/Presidio Heights Pacific Heights Forest Hill Balboa Park Twin Peaks I do agree $2k/roommate for 3 people you could afford a place in any of the above neighborhoods.
