PrimeReact Theme Designer is now free and open source

No idea how PrimeReact is not more mainstream than it is atm. While I haven't worked with it recently, it's 100% an S+ tier library in the projects I used it in. This designer looks really cool. More on reddit.com

I am currently evaluating React UI libraries for a new project. Everywhere I read about Ant Design, Material UI, Blueprint, and (lately) Chakra UI. At Github, those are full of stars.

Coincidentally I stumbled upon PrimeReact. It is Open Source like the others (with optional professional support), seems to be very cleanly designed and has plenty of components (even Ant can't compete in this regard). It also seems to be there for quite some time (version 6).

So, I wonder a bit why it isn't appreciated more by the community (like the other ones)?

Used it in our production system for about a year now and we're working on implementing it into another system were currently working on. It's been great so far!

I would say, make your choice, but I would not mix them and stick to your selected technology. There is a great answer on the related question: What is the need of JSF, when UI can be achieved with JavaScript libraries such as jQuery and AngularJS.

There are for example the Roma and Babylon themes in both PrimeFaces and PrimeReact libraries. Is it so that they look exactly same?

Themes on all current Prime libraries are based on PrimeOne. So basically they share the same CSS and will look the same. You can check for yourself:

I noticed they are very similar, but there are some spacing differences in the demos. The differences you are seeing are probably due the demo implementation and not due to differences in the themes.

Hi everyone,

After months of work, we are thrilled to announce PrimeReact v9, the open source UI component library for React.

PrimeReact is a part of open source UI libraries from PrimeTek that also includes PrimeFaces, PrimeNG and PrimeVue. PrimeReact never reached the popularity of others so we went back to drawing board and come up with a two phase plan. Phase 1 is now completed as of today.

So what is done in Phase 1?

Moved to primereact.org away from the umbrella of PrimeFaces
All-new documentation
700+ new demos for components
Generated API Doc from typescript
Advanced search with Algolia

What is coming up in Phase 2?

New styling API with CSS variables
Make designer open source and free
Unstyled mode
First class support for css-in-js, css modules, scss and Tailwind.
More templating
Make PrimeIcons optional
Port Accessibility implementation from PrimeVue.

Phase 2 is all about ease of customization and developer experience. Goal is to complete it in Q2 2023. Visit the Roadmap for detailed information about the plan.

Awesome work. If you add style customizability to all components, this component library can be best among all of them. I mentioned on previous post, in my company we use PrimeVue in all projects with paid template. It is awesome and so easy to use. Only problem is extensive styling. I use React in my all personal projects. It would be awesome to see extensive styling with scss or css in js
