Tonight I learned the hard way that if Public Storage says the facility closes as 9:00 pm, the gate locks and will not let you out after 9:00 pm. You are literally stuck. The gates will let you in at 8:59 and then not let you leave at 9:00. If you find yourself stuck, the best thing to do is call the local police. They often have access to an override code. In my case, the override code didn't work, but the cop new that Public Storage owners live on the facility and went and woke her up. She had the proper override code and was surprisingly friendly for being woken up by a police officer at 11:30pm.

I rent a unit at a public storage by my house. Just using it to store some clothes and extra furniture while our house is getting some construction work done.

I have left past closing time 2x since I’ve rented the unit back in July 2023. First time was like a month after I first moved in, it was during the weekday, and for some reason I had assumed they closed like at 8. Closing time was at 6PM and I left at about 6:30.

Second time was a week ago, on a weekend. Closing time was at 5, but I thought they closed at 6PM. I left at about 5:15. Both times I called the public storage customer service number and they opened the gate for me.

Anyways, I went to my storage unit today to drop some things off but was denied access to the gate. I was told by the office staff that my account was flagged due to “loitering” because I had left late 2x. The office worker gave me the managers phone number and told me to call to speak to her. Since it’s the weekend I was told she would probably not be available until Monday and therefore I won’t have access until I get a hold of her.

I’m pretty bummed - I know it’s my fault I left late but I didn’t think it would be too big of a deal. Do you think the manager will just give me a warning? Or is there a chance I will be getting kicked out?

I’ll only need my unit until about February of next year. But it would be a big pain to have to move everything to a different place!

Numbers I've tried: (800) 688-8057 (877) 983-5168 (800) 567-0759 and the direction line for the exact facility. My bf has also tried some others that I didn’t try.😅😭

There's literally nothing online at allllllll or on their phone trees that even MENTIONS what to do in a situation anywhere NEAR this! NOTHING ABOUT ANY of emergency number, or WHAT TO GODDAMN DO WHEN YOURE STUCK INSIDE AFTER HOURS!!!

Also please don't say call the cops, that's an absoluteeeee last resort. Also it's my first time renting a storage unit so l had NO idea it locks you inside the vehicle gate so l was still putting stuff back in my car past the closing time. @ • and there's also NO signage addressing this situation or any help in emergency situation if the person in office isn't there.

I made a reservation at Public Storage for the 6th, but I don't want to move in all of the stuff I have immediately. This could seem obvious, but I've never bought storage before: can I move more stuff in after my move in date? I don't want to be stuck having to scramble to get all my stuff in order to store in one day.

Hello! I have a unit with Public Storage and to access it I have to put in a code to get into the facility, then a code to get into a hallway that has my unit with my lock on it.

Well last week I went to access my unit and couldn’t get thought the door with the access code I was given. I called the site manager and he told me the door was “jammed” and would have someone out next week to get it open. So I politely waited a week and went back to no avail. I called the property manager again and he said it would have to wait another week before I can access my unit. I got his bosses number and tried that but he didn’t answer and I left a message.

Any advice? I am going on a trip this weekend and if I can’t access my unit it’s going to cost me a lot of money to replace those items.
