so I've been using RazerCortex for a couple of months and I haven't seen any improvements and I know that there are a lot of people out there who say that it's useless and only slows down the PC, but I wanted to know more with your answers and whether I should keep it or not
I decided to try it out and it straight up crashed the game I was playing instantly and screwed me over. Anyone have good results with this?

I watched a video on how Razer Cortex is a good software to improve performance on games... However Im still a bit skeptical about it
After despair with the awful centre M, crashing Playnite and finding everyone lied that Steam big picture mode is great, I installed Razer Cortex and omg it's great. Not only is the handheld mode brilliant, and it automatically detects and shows art and launches games from every launcher, it also has on screen performance options the same as the standard Claw ones, and it has an option for remote play from your pc apparently using the sunshine/moonlight code.
It absolutely smashes every other launcher I've tried. Try it!
What in the ever-loving fuck is wrong with the Razer devs? It's like they thought, "You know what'll really optimize performance? Giving the GPU a fucking sauna day." This isn't a software; it's a digital Molotov designed to turn your rig into a paperweight.
Who in their right mind greenlights a feature that tells your GPU, "Hey, let's just turn off the fans and see what happens"? Were they trying to figure out if you could hit a new record for GPU heat-death?
You pay a premium for hardware, and these couch humping cucks think it's a good idea to fart a program that acts like a goddamn arsonist. Itโs a complete fucking joke. This isn't a "glitch"; it's a monument to incompetence, a glowing testament to how little they give a shit about your gear. That's all the rant, fuck razer, fuck their devs for putting out a POS software.
Ive been playing modded mc for a while now and have noticed some hate towards game boosters/optimisers on this subreddit, but I have noticed something (at least with my system):
Razer Cortex actually does a very good job of boosting performance by allowing for my game to use more RAM (around 1GB extra RAM to use)
So my question: is Razer Cortex actually any good? Or is something else behind my performance increase?
SPECS:
Type: Laptop
CPU: i3-4005U
GPU: Intel HD 4400
RAM: 4GB DDR3
OS: Windows 7 Pro
From what I could find out it clears out old files Windows files, defragments hard disks, and turns off non key window process during games. Rather or not it will help much I guess depends on how much RAM you have.
(I not used cortex but I left the links I used to get the information above)

Edit: to what you were asking about if its shake oil. the process being turned off would free up some RAM but if you knew what you are doing you could turn them off yourself like the video Alex did on the windows 10 video (although you probably want need to go that extreme)
Probably a stupid question but do you use optifine?
I picked up a Nari Essential headset from Best Buy for 35 bucks (reg. $99) and got them today. Setting them up, I ended up installing Razer Synapse 3 and, after reading some reviews about Cortex, slapped that puppy on my machine and HOLY SCHMIDT, what a difference it makes on my system:
Asus Prime H270-Plus
Core i7-7700
32GB DDR4 @ 2400Mhz
Samsung Pro 980 M.2 PCIe 3.0
New XFX 6600XT 8GB
34" 3440 x 1440 @ 144Mhz
I bought Cyberpunk 2077 today and played it before I installed and ran its optimizations on the game and it wasn't terrible the first time. Was doing OK with the games optimization tool. But damn! Once I ran the Cortex optimization on the game, getting 100+ FPS at full resolution. Settings are medium-high.
If you know you know and if you don't, get in on it. Excited to work through my library and see the difference.
Do note: I know nothing about PC's and mine was gifted to me so if I miss something please remind me!!

My (What I think are) specs are:
Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) N4020 CPU @ 1.10GHz 1.10 GHz
Ram: 4.00 GB (3.82 GB usable)
IF it is good for my laptop, what boosts might I see in performance? I usually max around 20 FPS in games. (I'm not specifying which cause I'm scared to)
Any help is appreciated!
Cortex comes on automatically and it seems to drain so much power. When on battery it can go from 1h30 with 80% to 3h just when I kill the app in task manager.
Kept wondering why my PC recently started to become unresponsive to soon becoming almost frozen completely, after 'closing' a game. I almost went to the route of reinstalling windows before I saw a few people on other threads mention Cortex being the culprit. I tested it and not even 3-4 seconds after 'cancelling' the boost, my PC was, as usual after closing a game, unresponsive. Few apps would open, like browsers (Brave/Chrome), but whitescreened or completely frozen by themselves. Hovering over other apps or Win+D works, but nothing beyond it. So, if you're in a similar boat, disable Game Booster's Auto-Boost.
Never used Razer Cortex before, but thought it might help with running games. Anyone else tried using this? It seems to free up LOTS or RAM and feels a bit quicker in general.
I'm testing with it at the moment... Will see if there is anything noticeable.
UPDATE: AFTER 3MO I FIXED IT (i think)-
what i did was go into razer cortex, go to system booster, speed up, then press "Restore to windows defaults" or smth. Then restart. I did this then uninstalled the razer cortex software, and it hasn't crashed since, although at the time it wasn't crashing as often as usual.
ORIGINAL POST- IGNORE, PROBLEM FIXED ^
So around a month ago, I was using cortex and had auto boost on. Had been using it for years without issue. Like other people on this subreddit, I experienced freezing and crashing when closing games. I turned off auto boost and the freeze didn't occur for a week. But then, just over a week later, my pc froze in the same way whilst watching youtube. From then on, my pc has been randomly freezing in the same way. It has gone days without doing it but then boom, frozen again. I sent my pc into a shop and they couldn't recreate the freeze. Is my pc permanently f'ed? What do I even try to do?

Updates that suddenly pop up and annoy the heck out of you
-
Shutting down the app crashes my computer and restarts it?
-
Turning it off significantly increases my FPS in my game, resource hungry?
Core i3 8130 u, 12 GB ram, Intel UHD 620 graphics (integrated) and an SSD
I play some GTA 5, Forza horizon 4 and I get 30 FPS on the lowest settings and 720p resolution. I'm pretty happy with it
However I suddenly remembered the whole boom about Razer cortex in 2020 during COVID gaming sessions, never bothered to use it back then.
But wondering if it'll work in my Laptop specs? Will it make a difference?
With all the gaming laptops I owned so far, there was always an issue of background processes that bothered me. Over years, I tried number of software/apps to tweak and optimize those. And of course, played around a lot with settings and software configuration manually too. But it was kind of a headache having to use the same machine for work and gaming and trying to maintain setup that suit each of those profiles.
Yeah, a rant, I know, but think this might be a common problem. And solution- its available right there with Razer Cortex, a real one-click free solution that immediately helps purge memory of 3+ GB of stuff. And one-click button to restore it all back too! Couldn't have asked for better solution.
I have a bunch of apps that auto-start on Windows (Discord, WhatsApp, VPN, Dropbox, OBS, etc.) that I need for daily use, but I'd prefer them to be shut down or paused automatically while gaming to get the most performance possible. I need them set as autostart for my workflow.
Iโve seen mixed opinions about tools like Razer Cortex, some say it's helpful, others call it useless. Should I be using something like that, and if so, which one? Or is Windows already smart enough to manage background apps and prioritize games?
I donโt want to manually close them every time I game.
My laptop is slowly heading towards the lower end, so every bit of performance helps:
Specs:
Laptop: ASUS Vivobook 15 Pro
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 4800H
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1650 Max-Q (4GB VRAM)
RAM: 16GB DDR4
Storage: 512GB NVMe SSD
Thanks!
Did razer cortex damage my pc? So basically running pc for 8 hours all good, friend told me to try razer cortex. Ran it, so started the mw3, felt the same. So turned off the razer boost thing after an hour game session, and went to close either the game or battle dot net launcher can't remember, wouldn't close, so tried closing all the razer software in task manager in case it was preventing it, two seconds later pc completely freezes. I hold the power button down for 5 seconds, and restart the pc, and uninstalled the razer cortex shit. First, why did this happen? Secondly: could this of done any permeant damage, or also could of turning it off by holding down the power button for 5 seconds have done any damage? Never had an issue with this pc before
Hey all been loving steam link lately but found out that razers pc game streaming will auto adjust to my target devices aspect ratio. Went to try it out and it was fine with all games except for red dead 2. Even trying to run it locally on my pc with cortex installed dropped my gpu usage to like 10 percent
So I was playing roblox and was playing this game called Arsenal which is a shooting game i used to get around 90 fps on the lowest and then I installed cortex, it fucked up my systems CPU and GPU. It felt like my pc's GPU and CPU were overclocked to the maximum. My laptop started overheating since i used the game booster, it didn't take me a long time to realise what cortex done to my PC. BTW i tried uninstalling everything, nothing changes it's the same overheating and lag spikes. LITERALLY I WAS NEVER LAGGING IN MY ENTIRE PC LIFE, the same thing happened to my friend but whe.n he uninstalled the program his pc was back to normal. Now i can't play cs go, roblox or tf2 i used to get 90 fps on all of them before i installed cortex. It basically fucked up my system resources. I regret my decision and YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW BADLY IT FUCKED UP MY RESOURCES, NOW IF I GO TO TASK MANAGER MY NVIDIA GPU DOESN'T SHOW UP ANYMORE. Cortex ruined my only source of gaming forever. Everything crashes and oh this didn't only happen to me it also happened to many people they even complained about it and uninstalled the damn program and it worked for them. My audio was also chopping up because of this stupid program. What do i do ?, pls anyone help and advice never use cortex it just fucks up the CPU of your pc. For details, here's what happened :
>CPU overheated and GPU overheated too, fps suddenly dropped to 40 then to 20 then to 1
>Audio started chopping up
>PC kept on shutting down when i opened any program
>When I uninstalled the fps went up to 40, the cpu still overheats due to cortex's fault, btw the cpu was new.
>Many people have said the same thing explaining how bad the program relly is and the only solution was to uninstall it which didn't work for me.
I watched a video on how Razer Cortex is a good software to improve your FPS. However I'm still a bit skeptical about it
