i'm really considering buying it and haven't had a razer keyboard ever (except for a huntsman mini that i sold after a week but purely because i wanted a full-sized keyboard) nor have i ever had an optical switches keyboard haha
i currently have a red switches Corsair K70 MK.2 and despite it being a solid keyboard :
- some of the keys double-type (mainly those i use the most for gaming)
- some switches wore out and fall out if i don't press them in the absolute middle (bottom left control key)
my main questions regarding the HM V3 PRO are :
- how is synapse when it comes to controlling the actuation point? i've heard that despite the actuation point being VERY precise; synapse can be a little difficult at times
- how is the build quality?
- is the typing sound really that annoying over time? it hasn't bothered me on videos that i've watched but i've seen a lot of people complain about it
thanks a lot in advance :)
My old razer keyboard finally kicked the bucket after 5 long years of service 🫡 and i was looking at getting a new one. When i was younger i was one of those “razer are the best you can get” kind of people but i’ve become wiser in my old age. I’m willing to experiment with other brands but at least for me razer is tried and tested. If anyone owns one of these could you tell me a bit about your experience with it? While moneys no issue i’d still like to make sure i’m getting something worth it. Or if anyone has any suggestions for something better i’m open to hearing them. Primarily this would be used for gaming and i’m not super fussed about customisable lights or key sounds.
I’ve been using the full-size Huntsman V3 Pro for a bit now, and figured I’d share some thoughts.
Build & Design
Weighs under 900g, but the brushed aluminum top plate makes it feel premium and sturdy. Doubleshot PBT caps are textured and resist shine, which I really like. RGB looks great (per-key customizable, of course), and the included wrist rest snaps in magnetically. The problem is… it’s just not comfortable. Honestly feels like resting your palms on the desk, so I ended up not using it.
Switches & Typing
The real star here is Razer’s Analog Optical Switches Gen-2. You can adjust actuation from 0.1mm–4.0mm, and each key needs just 40g of force. It makes the board very fast once tuned. Typing accuracy was great for me, but it’s loud, which is a downside.
Gaming Performance This is where it shines most. Adjustable actuation makes a noticeable difference in shooters. At 0.1mm it’s insanely sensitive (too sensitive at times), but tuning it slightly higher gave me a great balance of speed and control. Rapid Trigger Mode works as advertised for spamming inputs, and Snap Tap (prioritizes your latest directional press) actually feels like a small but real edge in games like CS2 and Fortnite.
Software & Extras
Synapse gives you endless tweaking options (actuation, RGB, profiles, macros, etc.), though it can feel overwhelming. Thankfully, you can also toggle Rapid Trigger, Snap Tap, and actuation directly on the board via shortcuts, which is super handy mid-game. Media keys/volume wheel are awkwardly placed though.
Verdict
At $249.99, it’s steep. For casual players, I can’t justify it. For competitive FPS players chasing every last millisecond? This keyboard might just be worth it. Personally, I’d wait for a sale, but for pros it might be the kind of keyboard you need to give you an in-game edge.
Score: 7/10 (hampered by high price tag)
Looks like Razer is stepping up their game to hopefully take back market share from wooting / steelseries (and perhaps reclaim the 👑?) with the launch of the huntsman v3 pro line up offering full layout, tkl and 60%. Was looking at the specs of 60%, things similar to wooting (though performance yet to be validated) are rapid trigger, modifier keys, storing of profile (up to 6) in the keyboard and seem to be just wired mode (sadly I’d hope for wireless like steelseries apex). Still require the Synapse software to configure the details though. I really like wooting where can just use web based wootility. Not sure if the pbt keycaps are swappable since not mentioned. Thoughts?
