What sales are subject to sales tax in Georgia?
In general, Georgia imposes tax on the retail sales price of tangible personal property and certain services. While most services are exempt from tax, Georgia does tax the sale of accommodations, in-state transportation of individuals (e.g., taxis, limos), sales of admissions, and charges for participation in games and amusement activities. O.C.G.A. §§ 48-8-2(31), 48-8-30(f)(1). In addition, Georgia imposes tax on charges by the seller that are necessary to complete the sale of taxable property.  O.C.G.A. § 48-8-2(34)(A). For example, if a seller charges $20 for a shirt and $5 to deliver the s

Is property tax on leased personal property subject to sales tax?
The question of whether a tax should be included in the sales price (and therefore subject to sales tax) depends on whether the legal incidence of the tax falls on the seller or the purchaser. If the legal incidence of the tax falls on the seller, the tax is included in the sales price, like any other portion of the price designed to recoup the seller's expenses. O.C.G.A. § 48-8-2(34). Therefore, if a tax on personal property that is held for lease is imposed on the seller/lessor and the seller/lessor requires the customer/lessee to pay this amount, such amount must be included in the sales p

[OC] Effective Sales Tax Rates in Georgia
First, I want to say that this is decent work OP! I'm always a sucker for a map. If I may give one bit of constructive criticism, it would maybe be to make the color scale a step, rather than gradient, given how clean the sales-tax boundaries tend to be. I would have used a more neutral color, such as blue, but that's more of a personal aesthetic choice so feel free to ignore it. To provide wider context, Georgia ranks 35th out of the 50 states for total tax burden. It has below average property, sales, and excise tax burdens. While it has an above-average income tax burden, it only ranks 24th. If you exclude states with no income tax, Georgia is below average in rates. Additionally, the U.S., in general, is drastically under taxed compared to most developed countries . Given the tax cuts that occurred since 2015, that comparison is even worse now. All that is not to say that the information presented is useless (seriously, I'm not trying to be sarcastic or anything). For example, Gwinnett, Cobb, and Cherokee counties all have relatively low sales tax rates (in a relatively low burden state, in a relatively low burden country, blah blah blas). Of particular interest to me are Cobb and Gwinnett, in the context of adding a 1% transit tax, preferably for MARTA. It's not uncommon to hear counter arguments from anti-tax people, but the map here quite clearly calls out the counties as being outliers as far as tax rates go, showing that it's unlikely such a tax would be an insurmountable burden to the county's population (or the commuters / visitors who also pay into it). Georgia Sales Tax on Out-of-State Cars?

Every state you title a car in is going to want to collect sales tax for it, regardless of where you actually purchased the vehicle. Most auto dealers will collect the appropriate tax and send it to the appropriate agency (ex. I live in Georgia buy bought my last car from a dealer in SC, they charged me Georgia sales tax).

If you're talking about a car you bought while living outside of Georgia, you'd be subject to a 3% tax on the value of the car to get it registered in Georgia

Dealership sales tax on used car. Legit?
Yea, sales tax is misleading, definitely not the right wording. They're collecting the Title Ad Valorem Tax, since they are submitting the title paperwork at the time of sale. You won't be charged again. More on reddit.com

Bill to eliminate sales tax on feminine hygiene products in Georgia - HB 731

HB 731 is a bill to eliminate the sales taxes we pay on feminine hygiene products. There are no equivalents for men; this is a tax only shouldered by women. Plus, tampons, pads, etc. are medical devices and are regulated as such by the FDA. So why are Georgia women paying taxes on our monthly essentials, while other medical essentials are exempt and things like soda and candy go untaxed?

We presented HB 731 in committee, yesterday, but it is not being called to a vote!

Our only chance to get the bill passed in 2018 is to bring statewide pressure on House Leadership to make a vote happen.

Calls are needed THIS WEEK by individuals throughout Georgia to ALL three of these people. The urgency cannot be overstated.

Governor Deal 404-656-1776 Speaker of the House, David Ralston 404-656-5020 YOUR Georgia State Representative in the House If you don’t know your Representative, use https://openstates.org to find out. Script: Hello, I am _________ and I am calling to ask why HB 731 is not being voted on in committee. The bill eliminates sales tax on feminine hygiene products, a tax that is solely borne by woman who are already economically disadvantaged in our state. Women throughout Georgia ask for this bill to be brought to a vote.

Make the calls and then forward this to as many friends in Georgia as you can!
