r/localseo on Reddit: Best SEO Tool Recommendation?
September 4, 2025 -

My dad owns an auto shop in Vancouver and we've been looking for an all-in-one seo software that could help me audit, give recommendations, and possibly build citations as well?

I think I saw semrush does it all, but the pricing is too high for us right now.

Preferably a tool that uses AI as well would be great.

All in one local tools don't really exist to be honest. When they do offer all or most of the tools you're looking for, they are only great at one or two. I'd especially be wary of this "give recommendations". Tools today, especially the big SEO suites, have a tendency to recommend nonsense just because there is hype or a trend about it and they don't want to be left out. They also all have tendency to recommend things that bring you back to their tool suite or to another tool / service they own. Layer in LLM-AI tech and you can get total junk recommendations pretty easily. Run from any tool that claims they can automate everything for you - it will break your SEO ultimately. I would also try and put a firewall between: Recommendations and Audit + Build citations if at all possible (hire a consultant locally for recommendations and do the work yourself via your tools). Finally, you're only getting a few parts of Local SEO. If you used one tool for all of these things it would: Audit your technical SEO and content, give recommendations on technical SEO and content, build citations for you and/or give you a list of places to get citations / sell those to you. Instead of this I would recommend the following for a solid 2025 proof local SEO strategy today: Citation Building - Bright Local or Fat Joe (no relation) - Note: Neither are GREAT, Bright Local is probably the best available atm. Citation Finding - Whitespark Audit - SEMrush, Ahrefs (if you don't know what you're doing) and Screaming Frog (if you know what you're doing) Other tools for Auditing by yourself - Google Search Console, GTMetrix, PageSpeed Insights Measuring Map Position Changes - Local Falcon, Places Scout - Note: Local Viking isn't great and all of your data is public, Local Dominator I'm not certain about. Measuring overall rankings - SEMRush, SERankings Measuring traffic - Google Analytics 4 Review collection - GatherUp (for general purpose, Judge.me for ecommerce) Google Business Profile Optimization - Consultant or Agency Link Building - Consultant or Agency (do not buy links!) Consensus Building - Consultant or Agency If you use WordPress there are various plugins that might help you with local SEO implementation. This is an incomplete list of them. Yoast - Organization schema + Open Graph / twitter cards + Text link count + Meta data editor (title, description, etc...) + other SEO tools built-in: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-seo/ Rocketship SEO - Display Google Reviews + Build an automatic Table of Contents for blog posts + use AI to optimize images + use AI to optimize various other parts of the site + IndexNow + Redirect builder + Bot Traffic analysis and redirecting + Visual sitemap builder + XML sitemaps + Organization Schema + Open Graph / Twitter Cards + File Editor + Meta data editor (title, description, etc...) + Compatibility with other SEO plugins (Yoast, RankMath, SEOPress, etc...): https://wordpress.org/plugins/rocketship-seo/ Post to Google My Business (Google Business Profile) - Automate posting to Google Business Profile from your WordPress: https://wordpress.org/plugins/post-to-google-my-business/

If you are looking for one tool to rule them all, but without high price tag, you can stop looking -- they don't exist. If you want to save, the best option is mix and match your solutions, like paying one time to get someone build the key citations for you (fiverr, DIY, or Brightlocal), monitor them in AI assisted local SEO tools like gridmybusiness, localo, etc.

With my years of experience ranking websites, it is like combining this plus this to give you results. I will explain the process to you. Note: All these are free SEO tools for ranking your website. GTmetrix: GTmetrix is a free tool that provides insights about your website's page speed and performance. You can use it to identify issues slowing down your website, such as large image files or unnecessary scripts. Google Analytics: This is a free tool. Free tools that are usually part of some freemium model aren't too bad, here are some that might work for you. I don't want to sound preach-y, but remember tools can't get you out of understanding your audience and niche on a deeper level and creating content that will persuade them to buy from you. At the end of the day it's about sales and that knowledge is what will drive sales. Anyway, here's a list to help you out. Keyword Research: Ubersuggest Google Keyword Planner Keyword Tool Wordtracker Scout Answer the Public On-Page Optimization: Google Search Console Yoast MozBar Backlink Analysis: Ahrefs Backlink Checker OpenLinkProfiler Link Explorer Majestic Site Speed: Google PageSpeed Insights GTmetrix Pingdom WebPageTest YSlow Plugins like lazy load, hummingbird etc. Technical SEO: Google Search Console Screaming Frog SEO Spider Chrome DevTools Schema Markup Generator SEOquake If you need an SEO checklist too, PM me, I'll send it over.

We are a brand new business - trying to turn our little hobby into a business.

We sell screen printed shirts (I have 23 years experience working in the industry and starting my own now).

We have no income yet so its whatever we have in the bank - we want to do some print advertising around town and then try to optimize our website (wix) and google business profile with an online SEO tool.

We could maybe afford like $40 a month (eventually we will want to spend more but don't have money yet).

Best options?

I am shocked by many of the suggestions here. If I was doing SEO with $480 per year, exactly $0 would go towards tools. My take: You do not need tools to do SEO. Especially not paid tools. Use Google Search Console. It is free and already gives you a lot of data. The free version of ScramingFrog SEO Crawler is good enough for small websites. But unless you constantly change your website, you will rarely need it. Only if you absolutely need information that you cannot get from free tools or if there is a workflow that you wish to automate/improve, then you should think about buying a paid tool. optimize our website (wix) and google business profile Focus on the Google Business Profile. You are much more likely to see results quickly. Especially if you have no background in SEO. The most important things you will need is: Filled out profile Good reviews from happy customers Good pictures we want to do some print advertising around town That is exactly what to do for this kind of business. This + other forms of marketing/advertising + Local SEO are the way to go. Traditional SEO is unlikely to drive you significant traffic in the first 12 months. Another piece of advice: Put your target keywords into Google and see who is ranking. Many will be directories. Try to get on there!

some of these have already been said, some not, but here's what's in my tool belt (no specific order). SEMRush.com - use it for site auditing (let's me see things the eye misses), ranking monitoring, backlinks, etc. Ahrefs.com - there are a lot of functions in this tool, but I've found it to be best for links specifically. Moz.com - I primarily use the link tool here, as well as their NAP checker for local businesses (Name, Address, Phone). Google Search Console - this is of course my favorite tool. I can see a lot of performance based metrics, as well as see enhancements, speed issues, crawling issues, sitemaps, AMP, etc. Google Tag Manager - a lot of people don't leverage this well. GTM has allows me to scale substantially with certain tasks, like dynamic structured data based on page type (really helpful for blogs), event tracking (granular), title tag, meta description, content injection (for those sites you either can't access or are a pain to get anything to stick). BrightEdge - primarily their Data Cube and they just rolled out a new version that is way better IMO. Side note, I spoke with a rep there last week and he mentioned their software is ready to rock for AI Overview tracking once it's fully rolled out (IDK if that's true, but that's what he said). Screaming Frog - really good crawling tool. free version only let's you crawl 500 URLs, but I think it's about $200 a year or something for paid. Sitebulb is another good one. AWRCloud - Ranking tracking by keyword phrase. Google Looker Studio (historically datastudio) - super nice to compile reports. I am sure I missed some and will update if I think of any others.
