I’ve been wondering recently if or when it matters where you mount side mount drawers slides on drawers boxes. I typically stick them right in the middle of the box. Is there any reason to mount closer to the top or bottom? I haven’t had any issues with mine, I’m just curious for the future if there’s any reason to mount them in a particular place, other than aesthetics.

I’ve worked in several shops and we always mount them about 3/4” up from the bottom of the drawer. It doesn’t really matter if you have a quality drawer box but it looks the best if they’re towards the bottom, and it makes mounting them a lot easier if you mount all of them the same distance of the bottom regardless of drawer box height.

I know the drawer should be 1” smaller then the opening (24” opening 23” drawer). What’s is the the minimum size drawer you can go with to fit a 24” opening without adding shims for a drawer slide to work, would a 1/8” difference work? Say I make the drawers 23 7/8. I know you have some flexibility with how the drawer slides are designed with the mounting tabs. Thanks

I have a cabinet like structure to which I would like to add sliding side mount drawers. The side walls are not exactly parallel and thus i expect that the drawers will not move in and out smoothly.
Is there a way to correct that problem so that the slide mounts work nicely?

Mount the rails on shims that match the angles of the sides.

I use rear metal brackets, and screw it all down except for the rear brackets, then with the cab on the back, operate the drawer and shim the rails to "where they need to be", then screw the brackets tight. Since I'm really a parallelogram maker, not a cabinet maker, this works for me...
