Please don't support this podcast . I was a long-time listener but like many others I have completely stopped following and listening. Tiffany Reese's content has become so irresponsible, she's also completely unwilling to accept a shred of accountability or constructive criticism. Answer from drunkenstupr on reddit.com

Ok, after bitching about Something Was Wrong format recently, I have to hand it to them that these two new seasons are back on track. Especially the two episodes that just aired of the new series. A truly traumatic story of a narcissist/drug addict who terrorizes his wife, and how she overcomes it all.

First time making a post on Reddit but I need to know others feel the same way about this. I tried the first season, couldn't get on with it. Felt like it wasn't edited. Huge swathes of ONE interviewee just talking and talking and talking. Bits of conversation that are dropped in that then go nowhere. The host doesn't ask any of the questions you would ask to get better tidbits out of the interviewee. It felt like children making a podcast.

I gave up and then someone told me to try season 2. It's a really interesting story but it suffers from the same faults. For the love of God please edit these people. Put something into some kind of order. When you cut a line don't leave an 'and' on the end.

Now there's a Patreon? If this is the quality that continues they should be ashamed of themselves charging for this slapdash work.

I listened to the first few seasons a while ago and found the stories interesting enough, but fell off soon after. I gave it another shot recently with the latest season about Jessica P. and "Brody" and it was just awful. You can tell this small bit of popularity has gone to the host's head. She's taken to calling herself a "documentarian" and is calling the FBI to try to get them to press charges against someone for catfishing. She had an opportunity to speak to the catfisher and get their side of the story and completely fumbled it because she has no idea what good journalism and interviewing looks like. I believe she starts to think of her podcast subjects as friends and it turns into a really weird circle jerk of "exacctlyyyyyyy" instead of compelling storytelling. Also yeah, long, rambling accounts of unfiltered information from the victims that could easily be condensed, clipped, or summarized. I think she really prides herself as being someone who lets the victims' voices be heard, but she could still do that while having a sense of structure and not exhausting the listener with unnecessary details- IF she knew what she was doing, which she does not. /end rant lol sorry

Welcome to the club. People with absolutely no credentials to diagnose mental illness making bold claims about others being narcissistic and/or sociopaths. Can’t remember if she does it in the first season, but at one point the host just reads passage after passage from some book describing different mental health diagnoses. Totally off the rails.

Just wanted to say I was really bothered by Odessa’s (the guest/interviewee) actions and other adults actions in relation to knowledge of an in appropriate relationship between an adult and a student(who might have been over 18 but there is a power dynamic here.)

If you become aware of something like this, your first steps are not to call the student, and then go around calling other students. You need to report it to whoever is the appropriate authority (maybe whoever runs the youth group above the youth pastor) or parents of the students. It really wraps the students(kids whose trust was betrayed) into the problem more. Just irresponsible.

I'm confused about the paywall thing on spotify. Last week, the trailer was visible but "locked". (Idiotic for a trailer, a promotional tool, to be locked, imo. So counter productive.) This week, the trailer is "unlocked" and episode 1 is visible but "locked". Does this mean we will still get access to the episodes on spotify, only, 1 week after prime members ? (This was always the case, it just wasn't visible before. You needed to go on the app to get the prime experience, but it didn't seem available on spotify.) I am lukewarm on where SWW is going... I have had fantastic listener experiences and cried hearing some of the women's stories on previous seasons... The last 3 seasons have been down right terrible, (though I skipped Tifanny's personal season alltogether because everyone on here said it was a disaster.) I also don't like Tifanny's behaviour on social media, and in the Bordy season where she posed as a "journalist". It feels like this pod took a wrong turn. I wasn't able to listen to the Megan season until the end, it was too repetitive and seemed to go nowhere, just like the "Brody" season, which I powered through, only to get an unsatisfying non-ending. It seemed incomplete because the girls never acknowledged their own denial on the situation, and how their own naiveness played a part within the multi-year problem they endured. I'll check into this sub and see how people like this new season to decide if it's worth checking out...

I'm torn on this season... There is SO many deaths during birth in hospitals too. It seems like this woman had a lot of red flags flying up but she was choosing to ignore them/trust who she hired to help her birth. Idk. Torn. Definitely devastating she lost her baby and it's absolutely not ok to practice without a license. I'm curious how this season will play out. 🩷

Am I missing something? I just finished Season 1. I decided to listen to it after hating the last season. But everyone says season 1 is soooo good so I tried it. But…. What made this story podcast worthy? Am I missing something? The guy kicked her dog and made up best friends and pretended to be them. Yep that’s weird and creepy. They keep talking about red flags and weird feelings but like WHAT WERE THEY? I just feel like it’s no where near specific enough. Is this just me? If I missing info, would love to know.

Im addicted to this podcast but I also feel conflicted, there are some things I like about it especially the earlier seasons in the sense that it felt like it was allowing the speaker to take some power back and be validated in a situation where society and the courts might’ve wrongfully held that from them.

But at the same time, they’re just perpetuating more harm with all the bullying. Sometimes I flinch at all the mean things they say, they’re taking the villain of each story and completely dehumanizing them and saying really fucked up things. In that way they’re often no better than the people they’re criticizing and it feels like the goal of the podcast isn’t to create positive change in people’s lives but rather to sensationalize people’s trauma in a gossip blog format and publicly bully the people doing wrong. I think this podcast is bad for my brain like reality TV but I can’t stop listening. It’s really toxic.

Anyone else feel like it’s kind of going off the rails? I also think prison isn’t the answer to everything, the world isn’t going to be a better place if we dehumanize others and encourage people to treat each other like this. Hurt people hurt people man, the real work is so much more complex and nuanced than what’s happening in the show. It needs a lot of compassion and empathy, I feel like the show is lacking that bit?

Ok maybe its just me but the guests on "Something Was Wrong" are getting more and more clueless and ignorant. Maybe this is disingenuous (still no one deserves what they go through) but I literally cannot listen anymore. Last episode this man hates her son from the start and threatens her and shes like eh ill give him another chance?? Its just hard to listen to now when theres 67 red flags they ignore.

Was recently suggested the podcast Something was Wrong by a good friend, and wow is it GOOD! Still in the first season of it, and was instantly hooked after the first episode. The first season deals with a young woman named Sara who was in engaged to a man who she later found out was not who he claimed to be. The things this man put her and her family through is so intriguing and heartbreaking. If you're into true story podcasts, give this one a try. If you're sensitive to the topic of abuse, I would skip it.

r/TrueCrimePodcasts on Reddit: Something Was Wrong Criticism
April 9, 2022 -

I saw a comment criticizing the podcast Something Was Wrong quite a while back and honestly, I’ve been thinking about it ever since.

As a survivor of domestic and narcissistic abuse, who had to figure out how to recover without any support or acknowledgment, I am so grateful for the podcast Something Was Wrong. It’s the most validation and understanding I’ve experienced in regards to my own abuse, and has helped me unravel why and what happened to a large degree. I listen to A LOT of podcasts, and it’s the only one I’ve found that focuses specifically on how and why survivors find themselves trapped in abusive situations, and the emotional impact various abuses have on people. All of that is to say - I was super surprised to see not only criticism about the podcast, but quite a few people agreeing with it.

Now, I don’t expect everybody to be interested in the same things I am of course; but this criticism seemed to be focused on the ethics of Tiffany Reese, which was even more confusing to me. For example, I think someone had mentioned something about plagiarism, but in all my listening of various true crime podcasts I haven’t heard a single story she covers anywhere else (besides her season about Jones Town, but even then it wasn’t about Jones Town itself and more about the life and recovery of a person/family that was there). Not only that, but there are so many true crime stories that are retold over and over again, I just don’t understand why Reese would be the one called out specifically on this or why it would be an issue at all. Having different perspectives about crimes and looking at them from different angles seems to be an important element to understanding and solving them.

Anyway, I’m really just genuinely curious what the ethical criticisms are about this podcast and where they come from?

I absolutely loved the first couple seasons of Something Was Wrong but my interest faded in season 4. I’ve read that some of the recent seasons are awesome and would love some help figuring out where to jump back in! What are your favorite SWW seasons? What’s a worthwhile place to start up again?

I used to really enjoy the podcast, and have been generally enjoying this “one off” season, however I’m kind of confused why some of these stories/people are being given this platform.

For example, the most recent one, rather than reporting sexual abuse, the narrator/person involved, simply gossips about it to others, there is no resolution.

What do you guys think of it lately?

r/TrueCrimePodcasts on Reddit: Tiffany Reese, host of Something Was Wrong has definitely crossed the line into inappropriate
February 18, 2022 -

(I apologize for the long read but I think it’s important that all the details are included)

Tiffany Reese, podcast host for Something Was Wrong and her admin friends from the official Something Was Wrong Facebook Group got upset about people criticizing them on the SWW sub r/unofficial_sww_pod and were mad that the mod there wouldn’t delete comments that were critical of Tiffany. (There were references to victim-blaming in the comments there as well. I have seen some of that, but have also seen the mod handle it really well. They either removed those comments or let people explain why those comments are really unfair/off-base.)

The admin from the Facebook group sent the mod some anonymous super threatening messages saying that the mod had x amount of time to shut this sub down or they would dox the mod. They then made statements about the mod’s children, the kind of vehicle they drive, etc. They had definitely figured out the mod’s identity and were threatening to cause problems for them. The messages were sent from a fake account, but traced back to the admin.

At about the same time, Tiffany started messaging the mod directly and saying that the mod hates her, is obsessed with her, etc. (I will also note that this was over Instagram and Tiffany early on in the conversation changes the convo to “vanish mode” so the entire thing couldn’t be kept to reference later.) Essentially, they want to control the content of the sub or throw their weight around to have it shut down if the mod doesn’t capitulate. Then, when the mod posted screen shots of the exchange, they reported it to Reddit and had it removed.

I don’t think people should be victim-blaming or calling people names - just because I don’t think that’s great behavior- but the mod is extremely responsive and on top of that sort of thing. To try to shut down a sub because people complain that your only contribution on the podcast is saying “I’m soooo sorry” is absurd.

Obviously, the very nature of the threats and doxxing was really disturbing, more so, I was very bothered by the tone of the messages. They were very much written from someone who believed they were in a position of power and was trying to use their power to control someone else. On top of that, this is counter to what Tiffany claims to be about and is incredibly harmful. Instead of at any point reaching out and apologizing to the mod about it, Tiffany more or less doubled down and posted to Instagram about her being the victim in all of this.

At the end of the day, Tiffany is hosting on a public platform. She has to know you’re going to have a lot of people who dislike you and aren’t always going to say nice things. To go this far to call someone out is a sign that you shouldn’t be a hosting a podcast and be a public figure. It’s so gross and as violating as the behavior of the people she condemns.

TLDR: Podcast host Tiffany Reese sent weird messages to mod from podcast subreddit. An admin from the Something Was Wrong Facebook page threatened to dox Reddit moderator and blackmailed her into shutting down the subreddit. This bad actor has verified close ties to Tiffany and the messages were in short succession

EDIT:

I just want to post the link here for the full recap directly from the actual mod here
