I don't represent the industry, but I've been more intrigued by candidates' personal SQL projects than certifications. It shows initiative and creates talking points. "So tell me about this project" vs "So tell me about the test you took". May not do as much for getting past an HR filter though.
My stock recommendation is pick a dataset you're interested in, load it into a database, and start asking it questions. You can find inspirational datasets here:

http://sqlzoo.net/wiki/SQL_Tutorial pretty good resource. the 101 fundamentals of sql are insanely simple and easy to grasp. i will try and oversimplify the concept for you, i will probably get shat on, but this is what sql is for me and im in an analyst position. at it core only two things need to happen. select what rows you need from a table - 'select' select the table - 'from' this is the process that is fundamental and needs to happen every time. if you get how that works, the rest is just building blocks around it. If you are a sysadmin and need stuff like insert table etc then theres a bit more than that but for an analyst you will not need anything more than 'select' and 'from' More on reddit.com

One really good (and free) option is the Certificate of Competency in SQL from LearnSQL.com. You just take a practical exam — no fluff, no trick questions — and if you pass, you get a certificate you can add to your LinkedIn, resume, or portfolio. It’s designed to reflect real SQL skills, not just theory. If you’re up for paid options too, other solid ones include: Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Fundamentals – good if you’re into the Microsoft ecosystem. Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate – great if you work with Oracle databases. But honestly, certificates are cool — they can help you get noticed — but what really makes the difference is having a solid portfolio. That’s what people keep saying, and it’s true.
