I use a strip on the top of that moulding (with the awning open, it lights up the seating area under the awning). I know many people would hate this idea - but having it AS the beltline strip could be fun. I know - not where anyone else is camping [emoji3] ... I noticed some of those on that site are listed as waterproof.

Ah bummer. In addition to putting the silicone in the end of the tube, also use some marine grade heat shrink tubing over that joint/end of the tube. The marine grade heat shirk has an additional hot melty coating on the inside for better water resistance. Does direct sun shine on those tubes. I'm wondering if air inside the tube condensed (and maybe the moisture didn't come from the outside)? More on reddit.com

24v LED strips should be quite bright, but if not, go for 36v strips. But just remember that voltage drop is a thing, what starts bright near the PSU can still get dim at the other end on long runs even with 36v LEDs. You may just need to have multiple separate PSU/LED strips around your project. More on reddit.com

BTF Lighting has decent strips in the Amazon/AliExpress stores. For RGBW you can get some SK6812 strips. Other options would be WS2812B (5V addressable), WS2811 (5V or 12V addressable), or WS2815 (12V addressable w/ data redundancy). They also sell controllers, but I don't have much experience with them as I make my own using ESP8266/ESP32 boards with WLED firmware flashed on them. Alternatively, you can use cheaper analog strips if you don't care that they're limited to one color at a time. For waterproofing, they make IP67 strips which are coated in silicone and then placed inside a separate silicone sleeve. IP65 is the same but doesn't have the added sleeve. IP30 are just bare strips. If you want a kit you can look into Govee. They have a huge selection of products. More on reddit.com
