If you just want a pencil drawer, theee are a lot of aftermarket drawers. Most have a bracket with drawer slides that you screw to the underside of the desktop. Then attach the drawer to the slides. Make sure you measure the available space you have under your desktop, especially if you have a crossbar that gets in the way. Then look for a drawer that will fit. More on reddit.com

The IKEA Gerton desk is pretty great according to answers from people who asked the same question. I'm actually buying it in the next week or so. Its made of beach wood which is known to be durable. it comes without any finishes so if you wanted a different colour, you could dye it. I recommend you at least treat it with some oil (like Danish oil or linseed oil) to keep it from getting too dry. Right now it's priced at £75 but it does not come with legs, you can pay £150 for it with 4 adjustable chrome plated legs which look pretty good but that's very expensive for legs. You could get the cheeper legs they sell (some as low as £5 each). what I'm going to do is put it on top of 2 Alex drawer units but I know you said you didn't care for drawer space. It's really up to you what you do.
