If you love Taylor Swift, you might hope for something more. ... Throughout, she marches from truly great lyricism that is on par with the very best of her contemporary idols and peers to unfiltered writing that leads to more ridicule on TikTok than engagement with the listener. Musically, the project is also split between deeply engaging material that is her best yet, while the main album at times just seems too homogenous for its own good in locked in mid-tempo and synth-pop.

There are beautiful instrumental accents and interesting production flourishes throughout, and Swift continues to illustrate lyrical growth even though it has always been her strong suit.

November 8, 2024 - Taylor Swift following up her best album ever with a sequel a few months later was wondrous, and I’m overjoyed to see the high Metacritic score for Evermore be exactly what it deserves. Home to the excellence of Champagne Problems, Gold Rush, Tolerate It and Right Where You Left Me.

These subtle, interesting songs lost out to brasher, more basic tracks – Welcome to New York, Style – on the original 1989 tracklist, but who’s to say whether their inclusion would have affected Swift’s trajectory? Clearly she made a pretty good call on that front. This carbon copy of her blockbuster album doesn’t rewrite history but adds some instantly treasurable footnotes. ... Overall, ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ is excellent.

Her ability to capture her state of mind at a particular moment, match it with an insanely catchy melody and then allow listeners a glimpse of it while not being overly navel-gazing or overly introspective is unmatched. With RED, Taylor Swift is one of the Greatest songwriters of Our generation. I have listened to the whole album and this album actually has a more Country Rock feel to it rather than her usual Country Pop sound.
