Currently looking to buy a new mattress as my current bed in a box has become too soft.
Have tested Tempur-Pedic Adapt Medium and Pro Adapt Medium in numerous stores and love the feel/support.
My only hang-up is the countless reviews I see online stating they will do anything to get out of a warranty and the product sagging or dipping a few years after ownership.
I just don't want to get stuck with a $3200 bed that fails in a few years. Does anyone here have any thoughts, good or bad? If you own one, which model and for how long?
Definitely spelt the brand wrong..
Looking to buy our first King sized, goal is for it to last a while as we won’t be going bigger than a king.. not really a budget but less is obviously better. Originally I was all about the nectar hybrid copper, but we tried the memory foam one and didn’t love it. Sales person got us on a hybrid tempurpedic with cooling sheet and we fell in love..
Guess my question is - are these mattresses really worth 5k? Do they last longer than the competition? What are some other worthy entries to look at.
I have 2 bulging disks and sciatica (worse on right but still a little on left side too). Wife and I both sleep on side for the most part.
Thanks for the help, I have trust issues and the salesperson was really leaning into the whole “Made for NASA” bit of the tempurpedic lol.
They promised customer satisfaction, but yet when I continue to complain that the beds give me back pains and I’ll wake up so sore they refuse to take the mattress back
Edit: We have the Luxbreeze medium hybrid now after exchanging it from the firm. It really feels as if we are sleeping on top of the bed versus having that conforming mattress they sold us during the sales pitch. Once you exchange it you no longer can switch it for a different bed. So the 90-day satisfaction guaranteed by the customer service policy is voided once the switch is completed. Sucks cause we are only 60 days in.
Avoid purchasing Tempur-Pedic mattresses. I bought a Luxe Breeze (Firm) king-size mattress (from their flagship store in NYC), and within a year, the firmness deteriorated significantly, causing back pain. The sales agents were deceptive, and the Tempur-Pedic warranty is essentially a scam. Unlike traditional spring mattresses, memory foam doesn’t show visible depressions (unlike traditional spring mattresses) so the warranty won’t cover the mattress even if it loses its original quality.
In the unlikely event that you manage to achieve the required 1.5-inch depression (defying physics & gravity), they will only provide a credit to purchase another subpar mattress from their brand. In the end, you’ll end up spending even more money. Save yourself the trouble and research reviews on YouTube or Reddit to find other horror stories similar to mine, else be subject to a 5k+ purchase that will only last you a year at best.
I know mattresses are not BIFL but I'd like one that lasts at least 10 years since I've had a Tempurpedic mattress from 18 years ago that I loved. It was hot in the summers but perfect. This past year I've been getting lower back pain on it and I've noticed it has soft spots.
I had the worst nights sleep last night so I walked into a store to check out some Tempurpedic mattresses. I ended up purchasing an Adapt Medium to change it up.
I got home and took a nap on my mattress and noticed how different the new Tempurpedics feel from the models 18 years ago... Then I made the mistake of going onto the internet for reviews. Specifically, Reddit. That's why I'm asking here. I feel r/Mattress is either: salesmen, people looking for a mattress, people who have used a mattress for a few months, or people complaining/unhappy.
Is there anyone a few years in with a newer Tempurpedic that hasn't had any issues with sinking?
So far I have owned 2 Tempur beds. Both felt great for a while when I first got them, but then not even 2 years later they started becoming too soft to the point of causing pain. Not acceptable for a bed costing several thousands.
The first Tempur I bought was the perfect firmness at the time of purchace. The second one was even more firm, because my thinking was the extra firm would just soften up to firmness I like. Both ended up becoming too soft. My brother had the same problem with his Tempur becoming too soft as well. Keep in mind I am only around 145 pounds.
Their are even some people reporting their Tempur becoming too soft even after only 6 months. I also heard that 20 years ago Tempur was better quality and didn't soften so much, then after they developed a name, they started cheaping out on quality.
Anyway, just be warned that if you buy a Tempur, 6-24 months after you buy it, there is a decent chance of it losing a lot of its firmness, to the point of causing pain.
I am not sure what is the best bed to buy to retain firmness. Maybe somone in the comments can chime in.
Update: Flipped my mattres around and had even a worse sleep, because my body I guess was so used to the extra soft side, that the firmer side was a shock? So now we have one end way too soft and one way too firm. Oh Tempur why must you be so difficult?
Me and my wife are in the market for a new bed. With my lower back pain I need a firm mattress. We are thinking about getting the Luxe Adapt Firm.
The reviews online are all pretty good but I have yet to see one post on here about liking their Tempurpedic. So I’m trying to see if there is anyone in the world that actually likes their bed?
Our other 2 options are Serta iseries hybrid firm or the Airelook platinum preferred Austin.
I wanted to share my recent experience with Tempur-Pedic, hoping it might help others who are considering their products or dealing with similar issues.
Two years ago, I purchased a Tempur-Pedic Pro Adapt Medium mattress. Initially, it was great, but after only a year, the foam started to lose integrity and support, sagging at the hips when I lay on it, making it uncomfortable and very different from when I first purchased it. Naturally, I reached out to Tempur Sealy to make a warranty claim, as their warranty seemed to cover sagging.
Tempur Sealy's warranty specifically states that sagging needs to be 3/4" or greater to be covered, and the measurement is taken without anyone on the mattress. However, foam mattresses like mine often lose support without visibly sagging that much unless weight is applied. Despite providing photos and evidence of the mattress's decline, my claim was rejected because the sagging didn’t meet their specified measurement. This requirement effectively voids any meaningful warranty coverage.
It’s impossible for a customer to know that a 3/4" sag rule isn’t sufficient for basic coverage, especially since detailed information about their materials isn't readily available. Customer service and legal only gave me canned responses that didn’t answer my questions.
I decided to take the issue to small claims court. In the pre-hearing, Tempur Sealy showed no interest in compromising or settling, which led to the court date. They lost the case, but tried as hard as they could to stall by appealing, losing the appeal and delaying as much as possible. Eventually, they paid me the full amount plus interest and court fees on the last possible day before facing fines or collection proceedings.
This entire ordeal has been quite the learning experience. If anyone else has faced similar issues, I’d love to hear how you handled it.
It’s strange because they could have probably retained me as a customer, but instead, they created someone who will forever crusade against them. I think they used to be really good, but like other companies, they now seem to rely on their brand name rather than quality products.
I ended up getting a Sleep on Latex mattress based on positive Reddit reviews, and it has been great so far for my wife and me.
I see in some places it says they're worth the price but others say the price is scam. What is it?
Got a Luxe Breeze (firm) delivered two weeks ago tonight. Thought I was avoiding any potential issues by getting something “top-of-the-line,” but…
I’m in agony. At first it was just a bit of upper back soreness in the mornings, which I chalked up to much discussed “adjustment period.”
But after the first few nights, I think each new night only gets worse. I wake up frequently, and when the morning alarm goes off, I feel exhausted still, with new lower back pain. This morning I also had a kink in my neck that feels way more painful than mere soreness.
My wife is also on a bit of a journey with it… she reports sore shoulders, too, though not as bad as me it seems. But, she’s also having the problem of her hands going numb, which, uh, seems bad…?
This can’t possibly be the normal “break-in” experience, can it? If it is, how do they expect people to survive the 30 days (or more…??) of pain and terrible sleep?
I’m having a breakdown, and I’m genuinely not sure if I should just keep soldiering on because yeah, it’s normal break-in, or if I should just wait out the 30 days they make you keep this thing by sleeping on the ground, instead. (I’ve had decent luck with that, recently, while we waited for this supposedly best-of-the-best mattress to be delivered…)
For what it’s worth, I’m in the heavier side at 240 lbs. I think of myself as a stomach sleeper because that’s how I fall asleep, but my wife reports that I do often roll onto my side… I know this is sort of a terrible combination, but we had an ancient, not particularly high-end spring mattress before this that didn’t cause me these types of problems.
My wife is much lighter at about 165 lbs, and she sleeps in all sorts of configurations, but mostly side and back.
What should we do…? (I’m kind of just venting frustration, but if anyone who’s not a mattress salesperson does have any sage wisdom, I’m here for that, too…)
Background: owned a Cloud Luxe Queen ($3,500) for about 3 months and a Cloud Luxe Breeze King ($5,000, not cheap) for ~5 years now.
The first one (queen sized) from them wouldn't stop off-gassing. Our entire bedroom would smell awful from it 3 months later so we utilized the mattress store's policy to get a completely different mattress. We replaced it with some other queen size bed, which was great for several years.
Years later we needed to upgrade to a king, so we rolled the dice on another tempurpedic since the first was comfortable other than the terrible smell. This one stopped off-gassing after a week and was generally good (not great) for the first 4-5 years, but in the last year the material is starting to simply give up underneath me (I'm tall and about 200lb).
My shoulders and hips, as a side sleeper, are sinking so far into the mattress now that I'm getting neck/back pain from it. Checked other parts of the mattress (e.g. wife's side) and it's like a completely different mattress in those areas--feels like sleeping on concrete in comparison despite it being the softest mattress they make.
Reached out to Tempur-Pedic for warranty support since we're well within the 10 year warranty and because it's only visibly sagging 1/4" they won't do anything. I asked for help escalating and offered to provide images with weights in different parts of the bed to visibly show how much it's sinking when weighted, which is what actually matters for comfort. Was given an 800# and told they wouldn't help me because this decision is final and can not be appealed. Called the 800# and they're as unhelpful as I expected them to be.
It's clear they have marching orders to deny any and all claims that don't meet their very narrow, borderline extreme metric. They're honestly worse than any health insurance company I've dealt with. I found this post from someone that successfully sued them in small claims court and won, so I'm going the same route.
Title says it, my partner and I got a tempurpedic hybrid mattress back in August 2022 and it is far more firm even after “breaking it in” than the one in the store on display. I toss and turn all night. It feels like my butt sinks into the mattress but my upper body does not, for whatever reason.
We are obviously outside the return period which we are kicking ourselves for, because we were about to return it around the 80 day mark and decided to see if it softened up more.
We put a cheap mattress topper on it from Amazon and that helped, but I hate the fact that a $3000 mattress needs a $100 topper to be bearable.
I have it on a metal box frame that has slats 3” apart as is recommended by Tempurpedic (if not using one of theirs). Would one of their flat platforms change anything about the comfort of this mattress? Do people buy these mattresses used? I’m so upset for spending this much and hating it.
Any advice appreciated.
Edit: Bought in August. Originally said October
My boyfriend (M31) and I (M26) are on the hunt for a new mattress. We’re moving in together at the end of next month, and we are in dire need of a new bed lol his old mattress that we’ve been using (old king from at least 8 years ago) was hurting our backs so bad the other night, we woke up in the middle of the night and decided to find a mattress topper in the interim until we buy a new one together.
I have ALWAYS wanted a Tempur Pedic mattress. I don’t know if it’s this odd impression I’ve gotten from watching countless hours of ads in 2000s. Are they worth the purchase at all? If not, what’s another comparable/reputable memory foam kind of mattress you would recommend? I don’t know the material those beds use, so something like that would be sweet.
Much appreciated in advance! 😇
I spent $4k on a firm Tempurpedic mattress last year. After a year, it became too soft and I feel like my whole body sinks into the mattress with no support for my back. I can't even sit on my bed to read a book without back pain because I feel like I'm sitting on a marshmallow. I weigh less than 115lbs. In the summer, the mattress makes you sweat.
Is there a way to make a mattress firmer?
They say on the internet it averages 8-10 years. My guess is 7 as my back started hurting.
My fiancé and I are moving into a new place together and I was initially thinking I was gonna spend $2000-$3000 on the whole set up. I went into Ashley Furniture and ended up getting a King Tempur Pedic adapt hybrid with the adjustable frame. Out the door it was $5200. To me it’s insanely expensive. I can still cancel the order. I’m wondering if there is a comparable bed for less money. I was looking at the nectar copper hybrid with the adjustable frame, it comes out at nearly $2000 less. Did I overpay? If it’s worth it I’ll keep it. What other recommendations would you all have? I have never bought a mattress before. I’m 6’5 250 lbs and a combo sleeper. I also have nasal breathing issues so I think the adjustable frame is essential. My fiancé is 5’4 125 lbs and a combo sleeper. Thank you.
My main assessment based on my experience so far after 1 week - pro adapt firm is helpful, high end base not so useful and sales and support are the the worst.
My reason for buying Tempurpedic- I wanted a firm mattress that provides good support for my back. Tried a few mattresses including Intellibed and found Tempurpedic proadapt firm to be relatively more firm.
I definitely agree with others assessment on this board- you get a bad buyer experience with Tempurpedic. Here are my reasons-
-
Their systems are really bad. No one takes responsibility to help you through the problems they create. We bought the split king proadapt firm mattress with the top of the line base (extend) frame from their flagship store to address my back pain. The order got ‘jammed’ and didn’t go through and there was no communication from the store for 24 hours. We called back the next day and found out that the order didn’t go through and they put in a duplicate order again. Since then we kept emails about both the orders including delivery. Store associates were extremely rude or not helpful, even condescending at times. We tried calling Tempurpedic but every time we called we were on hold for a very very long time and couldn’t get someone to talk to.
-
We finally got the delivery of the first order as well as the second (duplicate) order, which we turned it down and the sleep tracker was not setup right at the time of delivery and didn’t work. Again same experience. No help from store, Tempurpedic or the delivery team that was supposed to set it up right.
-
I found the mattress we got was firmer than what we tried at the store. But very soon realized that the bells and whistles were more annoying than useful. For example, the automatic adjustment in response to snoring feature woke me up from my sleep by abruptly lifting the the frame uncomfortably high very fast.
My verdict- The Tempurpedic mattress was helpful with my back a little, but I should have bought the lower end base. Tempurpedic should be ashamed of themselves for selling such high end mattresses while providing such poor customer experience both online and at store.
Keep in mind that the mattress will soften up quite a bit from its brand new condition. I had a Tempurpedic Adapt medium that was sufficiently supportive at first, but within 2 weeks it became so soft that it made my back pain worse. Some people say it can take a month or two to really soften up.
I have two tempurpedic standard form memory foam mattresses. They are the best. They take several months to really break in. They also take several month for the fumes to burn off.
Hi all. I’ve posted in this group a few times already, but my bf and I finally bought a new bed yesterday. We got the TP King sized Adapt in Medium. The store we bought from actually had just got them the week before so what we felt in store was how it’ll feel once it’s brought home, and we tried a more broken in version at another store. We ended up spending about $5,000 including a mattress cover and the Ergo Power Adjustable base. VERY excited to have the adjustable for the extra lumbar support and the fact that i will read a lot more comfortably in bed.
My bf is a back sleeper, and I am a side sleeper. I have been having awful hip pain since our current mattress started getting bad. The TP was the only mattress that made both of us happy. We don’t like regular memory foam because there’s zero support but with the TP and the base having good support, the TP felt SO nice. We had been avoiding even trying them for a while just because of the price tag, but we bit the bullet and tried and fell in love with it. We figured it’s better to get something we love than to settle on something else that won’t even last as long. The mattress people let us lay there for a while and my bf even took a power nap. I also got my bf sold on the adjustable base. It’s being delivered to our house on this Saturday!
I know several people who have TP mattresses and always say amazing things about them. My aunt and uncle have theirs for like 15 years and say it still sleeps great. However, this sub seems to have very mixed reviews. How’s your experience over the years? How long did it last? Do you regret it? Would love some opinions!
Hey folks… so prior to this we had a “regular” / cheap mattress and box spring combo that was going on 15 years old, I slept through the night on it no problem and was never in any pain, however my wife was starting to have issues with it so she recommended we go look at new mattresses
We asked around to friends and family and everyone we talked too basically said how Tempurpedic changed their life, best sleep they ever had, it’s amazing etc , you get the idea
So we went to the store and they felt fine during demos, but that’s literally laying on a bed for like 60 seconds so what can you actually learn in such a short time
Ended up buying one for, and I’m not joking, $7,000 - the Tempurpedic mattress itself was $4,000 and then we got some adjustable motorized base that does massages and whatever else for another $3000
So I thought to myself this bed costs as much as a used car, it better be like angels themselves are coming down and lulling me to sleep
Wrong.
I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s the worst bed I have ever slept on in my life, I toss and turn all night long, I never sleep through a full night, I find it hard to get a comfortable position and I wake up in agony every day to the point where I feel like I need to take some ibuprofen the second I get out of bed
It actually got to the point where I slept on the couch one night instead of the bed and actually woke up feeling normal , meaning the couch is actually more comfortable then this $7,000 bed
Is this normal? Will this go away? It’s been 1 week and the mattress sales man or whatever said it’s normal and just takes an adjustment period and to quote “give it time” and I’ll get used to the new bed - but I wake up every day wanting to scream and I feel like I’ll never get used to something like this in a million years
