I’m confused as to what kind of strength I would need when working with say 20-30 tabs open and several excel files. Don’t want to go overkill and pay too much for features I’m not interested in. The Lenovo yoga and ideapad series are a bit too expansive for me. Would something weaker with say 8gb RAM and an older i5 processor be enough?
Gonna start with saying I probably can't go over $700-$1000. Im a teenager with a minimum wage job
Im not too picky about it but theres a couple specifications that I want. Preferably something touchscreen because I like to draw. I also want it to be able to run games like Minecraft or Genshin, not the largest games in the world but they're not light. Preferably something compact as well, doesn't have to be as small as a tablet or anything.
Please help I don't know how to buy devices, thank you
Videos
I don't know much about computers just looking for something for everyday personal use that'll be good to hold a good amount of videos and photos as I import them from my phone onto my laptop & have a lot. I don't have much $$ my budget is about $400-450 MAX I saw Walmart bc they're running an annual sale right now. TIA I’m thinking of getting the “ Acer Aspire 3 15.6 inch Laptop AMD Ryzen 7-5700U 16GB RAM 512GB SSD “
I bought an HP - ENVY x360 2-in-1 15.6" Touch-Screen Laptop - AMD Ryzen 5 - 8GB Memory a few years back and I couldn’t possibly hate it more. My budget is smaller now than it was then, but anything to get away from this thing. I need a laptop for school work and I run a small business for which I use mostly web based applications such as Canva and google drive/ docs. I also need to be able to use Microsoft word and excel. I would get a chrome book, but my concern is that I would need to save too many files on it. I suppose I could get an external hard drive if it really came to that.
The HP envy just never works as it should. It’s constantly freezing, refusing to connect to the internet, among other issues.
I need something lightweight with great battery life.
Edit to add- I can budget up to $400 for this. A chrome book may be my only option at that price point
I'm going into the second year of my Aerospace Engineering degree, and I'm looking for a new laptop. I want to transition from Mac to Windows. How good of a GPU and processor do I really need for my time here? I know that UCs are usually not hands on, so I want to know if I need something like a mobile workstation, or if a regular Windows laptop will do.
I'm currently looking at the Lenovo P1 Gen 7 laptop with these specs:
32 GB RAM
2 TB SSD
Intel Ultra 7 Processor
NVIDIA RTX 4070 GPU
2560 x 1600 Display
The main drawback for me about this kind of laptop is that the battery life would be awful and the portability wouldn't be great because of its weight. I built this model for about $2.3k after taxes and everything, but I don't really want to be spending this much money if I don't have to.
In conclusion, I have two main questions:
Do I actually need a laptop with this a lot of computing/processing power for the purpose of the specific Aerospace Engineering degree at UCSD, or should I go for something cheaper, more portable, and less specced out?
How many actual classes will require me to design models in SolidWords, CAD, MATLAB, etc in the Aerospace Engineering degree at UCSD (MC25), and how intensive are they?
I appreciate any input!
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
Total budget ($2400) in the US.
Are you open to refurbs/used?
Not really, preferably looking for new.
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Battery life and form factor aren't important. Will be plugged in and on a desk 99% of the time.
How important is weight and thinness to you?
Lighter/thinner would be nice but not important.
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Anything bigger than 13" would be preferred.
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Not at all/incredibly rarely.
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Not applicable in this case.
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Touchscreen and function with a pen/stylus like the Surface or Apple Pen is necessary.
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
Saw the new Surface Pro Studio 2. It is nice but at the absolute max on my budget for a laptop but if it is the best option I may pull the trigger.i’ve had this laptop like 8 months and it’s always so slow and laggy that it’s basically unusable, and this is how it looks when i open the roblox HOME screen, and everything else is closed.
My mom has her birthday in two weeks, she is using an old Asus Zenbook from 2017 while having a two-year-old Macbook Air and not using it principally as it is MacBook (and it only has two type-c ports) so I am planning on buying her a Windows laptop. My budget is 1000$ as I currently have 340-ish dollars as savings and I will also sell my older gaming laptop (Acer AN515-54 with RTX 2060) for $560-ish (if needed, i could try somehow getting some more). Planning on getting an Acer Swift Go 14. Is it a good choice and are there any better value alternatives?
thanks for any opinions!
Hello, so I have a choice between MSI Modern 15 Laptop - (15.6" FHD IPS-Level Panel, AMD Ryzen 5 7430U, AMD Radeon Graphics, DDR IV 16GB (3200MHz), 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD) and ASUS Vivobook 15 OLED X1505VA(i5-13420h, 16gb ram, 512gb SSD, OLED 2.8k screen).
Which one would be a better choice and why?
Any advice appreciated, thanks
