I can't install visual studio on my Mac. When I clicked on the download link from Microsoft's official website, it downloaded an exe file instead of a dmg file, which I can't open. What should I do?

When you click download, it takes you to a page that says visual studio 2022 at the top with three download options: community, professional and enterprise. You don't click any of them. Instead, scroll down and you should see visual studio for mac with a free download button. That's what you want to use. Hope this helps!

If you have a valid subscription, then "Visual Studio 2019 for Mac" should be available here: Donwloads – Visual Studio 2019 for Mac.
The valid subscription is usually a paid level subscription. Note that "Visual Studio Dev Essentials" is not a valid subscription in this situation.
BTW, as VS 2019 for Mac ended of support on May 23, 2022, and VS for Mac is scheduled for retirement by August 31, 2024, did you consider using alternatives like the C# Dev Kit for Visual Studio Code?
