Does anyone inside of corporate Walmart know more?
Everyone thinks I'm a loser, even my kids. The look on everyones face when I say I'm working at Walmart....
To me work is work and you do whatever you have to do to support your family. I haven't worked retail since the 90s . Back then I did a lot of shitty jobs like magazine sales, door to door cookware sales, door to door long distance phone service sales, sold knock off perfume in parking lots. I've been working since I was 14 in 1993 with the exception of 9 months laid off in 2013.
I got laid off in March and am on unemployment. I've made massive lifestyle changes and the only debt I have is student loan and mortgage with escrow. I am still $2k short a month with unemployment and it's coming out of my very limited savings. I am working part time as to still get my unemployment and have time to look for a job. I will make an extra $322/week working at Walmart. After taxes that will almost cover food for the month and will lower what I'm taking from savings.
I've been a single parent for over 20 years. I have 2 kids at home that I'm fully supporting. I can't just sit here applying for jobs with no one calling me and just hope, I'd rather just figure shit out in the mean time n do what I gotta do. Ive already been through my network, nothing. I'm tapping into other people's networks, still nothing.
I have a MBA and 24 years in my field. Ironically I just finished my first 2 days at Walmart and I got 2 interview requests (after deleting 14 years of experience fr9m ny resume). I'm super happy about it. I've applied to 200 jobs since January (got WARN notice) and i had 1 legit interview.
Don't be too good to hustle n do what you have to do, whatever that may be. Yes all the negativity made me cry and made me want to just blow off my first day but I put my big girl panties on, said fuck the haters and went to work.
I have to give my one friend/former coworker props because her immediate reaction was " I'm so proud of you!" I used to be her manager. She is the only person in my life that didn't make me feel like a POS. I'm not ashamed I'm working at Walmart so I'm going to keep telling people.
That is all.
ETA I'm a woman, mom

I hope everyone is doing okay. I specially those impacted by the layoffs. If you have any info on the layoffs or questions throw them in here.
Anybody know any hard numbers? Rumor mill said 1500 US associates and 1000 IDC (workers in India).
Also it appears all level 2 employees have been cut???
I have been working with the remodel team for almost two years now, about 5 out of my 35 coworkers have been working for remodel for almost 10 years. We were all called yesterday by different directors (that we’ve never spoken to before) telling us that we were all being laid off effective immediately, even for the associates who were in the middle of a remodel project. We were also told that it was a “hard decision” that was made that same morning at 8:30am. They then told us we’d be receiving packets in the mail the following day (today - 02/28). We thought maybe it was our team being laid off but nope, the entire project team has been disbanded and the position has been erased entirely. They are now hiring part time store associates to complete remodels with a $6 pay cut, while I was making $20/hour with gas mileage reimbursement. Upon parting ways, they’ve given us severance pay for 3 months until we find a new job. After May 30th, we will not be receiving anymore help. I’m incredibly frustrated, anxious, and annoyed. I’m not surprised though. The past year has been rough in this position, a lot of weird changes and we were all kind anticipating something to happen to our position. We definitely didn’t expect to be told to not come back to work in the middle of a project though. Though the severance package they’re leaving us with is a lot better than most, I still can’t help but feel incredibly defeated at this point.
ETA: they’re not actually paying us what they said they were going to for the next 90 days. It’s an average total of what our individual paychecks look like, they’re not counting NPTO or PTO, only working hours.
ETA: the 40,000 came directly from my boss and I didn’t care to check the validity of that due to taking his word and being wrapped up in my own feelings. The number is closer to ~1,500, sorry about the misleading title!
This is not a usual place to do layoffs! It’s not silicon valley that you lay off people and then they have other companies to turn to. How can you practically make people move here in a hell hole like Bentonville and the lay them off. Are you frikkin stupid? Do you want people to commit suicide? You don’t let any other company come here, you ask people to move here and then you take away their job? What is this emotional roller coaster, do you want us to die literally?
Also any details in specific? What kind of jobs will be lost and in which cities/regions? Thanks

Today and tomorrow will be mass layoffs in Walmart about 1500 people laid off from US offices. I’m the one who got affected and literally got this as birthday surprise after working for 6 years.
2024 has kicked off with a bunch of layoffs.
Here is the list of some of the big companies that have cut jobs since the year began:
Amazon, Google, Walmart, BlackRock, Citigroup, Macy's, Universal Music, Xerox and now Wayfair
Who are we hearing is next?
I heard there’s a layoff at home office today. Does anyone know how many people were impacted?
Walmart is cutting hundreds of corporate jobs and asking most remote workers to move to offices, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Meanwhile, workers at the U.S. retail giant’s smaller offices in Dallas, Atlanta and Toronto are being asked to move to other central hubs such as Walmart’s corporate headquarters in Bentonville as well as Hoboken or Southern California, the report added.
Walmart will still let staff work remotely part time, as long as they are in offices a majority of the time, the report said.
Walmart employed approximately 2.1 million associates as of Jan. 31, 2024, according to regulatory filings.
The company has been making moves to shrink its workforce over the past year and had said in April last year that it expects about 65% of its stores to be serviced by automation by the end of its fiscal year 2026.
In February 2023, it shut three of its U.S. technology hubs and asked hundreds of workers to relocate to keep their jobs, pushing for more employees to report to work from office.
Walmart didn’t immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Walmart HO and international being hit hard today. Directos, 25 years, recent hired. All affected
Today, Walmart Corporate announced internally that they are eliminating 100% of all work from home agreements. They are giving people until July to move to Northwest Arkansas or to accept a severance package. I know a few people who have been with the company for 10-20 years who are top performers with no disciplinary issues. Absolutely bullshit. Corporate greed at its finest.
