September 12, 2019 - So I meandered over to Walmart today, stoned as fck on a mission to upgrade my lighting situation. In the electronics aisle (near headphones and tvs) I happened upon the monster brand RGB bulb kit. These are BRIGHT.

r/Frugal on Reddit: Local Wal-Mart keeps mis-pricing their Great Value LED 60w bulbs
January 22, 2015 -

So I noticed in 2013 that our local Wal-Mart had priced their Great Value 60W soft white LED bulbs at $4.88 instead of the normal price of $8.88 (yes, I know the website says $6.88 now but not in 2013/2014).

So I bought a couple just to try them out. Next time I was back in the store and thought about bulbs, it was spring of 2014 and when I went over to the section, the bulbs were now labeled $2.88.

So I started buying the whole shelf, whatever they had for bulbs, usually 4 to 6 at a time.

Today, I have 43 bulbs at a savings of over $200 and my electrical bill has gone down about 10%.

From today's receipt.

Edit to add: One source I found says the average US household has 45 bulbs.

Your local electric company may be offering an instant rebate on these. Mine does this and the rebate comes right off the price of the bulbs at the register. That would explain the difference between the online and in store prices. My power company also gives 50% off efficient light fixtures via an online rebate.

Speaking of mislabeled prices, here is another frugal tip... In Michigan, if something rings up at the register for MORE than it was labeled, purchase it anyway. Go back to the display and make sure to take a photo of the labeled price, with the product in view (Best Buy tried sending an employee over to the display to change the price quickly when I did this once to try and make it look like they did no wrong), Then head straight over to customer service (or my personal favorite, right back around to the same cashier) and say you are there to collect your scanner law bounty. The law states: 'The conditions that need to be met in order for your customer to be eligible for the bonus (bounty) are as follows: (a) There is a price displayed for the consumer item (the price does not need to be affix to the item in question). (b) The sale is recorded by an automatic checkout system. (c) The buyer is given a receipt that describes the item and states the price charged for the item. Your customer has 30 days to bring it to the establishment's attention, either in writing or in person. Within 2 days from receiving the notice you may choose to refund the difference between the amount charged and the amount displayed, PLUS a "bonus" of 10 times the difference not less than $1 and with a maximum of $5. Remember, like Act 449 they can request this for more than one different item on a single receipt. If you choose not to pay the bonus (bounty) or even the difference, your customer has the legal right to take you to court and may receive $250.00 in damages and up to $300.00 in attorneys' fees.' More info here: http://www.michigan.gov/mdard/0,4610,7-125-2968_4823-12359--,00.html Wal-Mart and Best Buy are NOTORIOUS for this. EDIT: Here is a video of the law https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtB4LMoabY0

Walmart Great Value 10W LED Light Bulb (60W Equivalent) review: Brightness to spare with Walmart's low-cost LEDs - CNET
Walmart Great Value 10W LED Light Bulb (60W Equivalent)
It's hard not to like a bargain-priced LED that offers this much brightness, but don't rely on it if you're using dimmer switches. LED light bulbs hit a new milestone this year, with 60W replacements selling for less than $5, no rebates necessary. At that price, upgrading from incandescents is a no-brainer, especially considering that an incandescent will add about $7 to your yearly energy bill, compared to just over a buck from a comparable LED.One of those low-cost options can be found on the shelf at Walmart. Sold under the "Great Value" brand name, the bulb is a dimmable 60W replacement th
