r/remotework on Reddit: Walmart Corporate Eliminating Remote Positions
May 13, 2024 -

Today, Walmart Corporate announced internally that they are eliminating 100% of all work from home agreements. They are giving people until July to move to Northwest Arkansas or to accept a severance package. I know a few people who have been with the company for 10-20 years who are top performers with no disciplinary issues. Absolutely bullshit. Corporate greed at its finest.

If you have questions or problems, you are pretty much expected to just do whatever you need to do, and if it's wrong, then they give you a "coaching session" later about how it should have been. You are told repeatedly to refer to their directives and to send a chat to a "supervisor" group, if you have any issues. They tell you they are trying to encourage independence and self sufficiency since you are working from home.

I currently work at Walmart and it's been 2 month I joined as a Frontend Cashier. I am student IT student and has around 1.5yrs exp in Tech and the only reason I took the job is because I didn't get the internship this year. Can I ask my store HR/Frontend Lead/Coach to put or recommend me into home office department like any online customer service role or something.

Or does Walmart have in-store IT department for stuff like Data Entry or Data Management or something?

The Walmart Return to Office Disaster and What We Can Learn From It – ARC Relocation
As per reports, remote workers were instructed to decide by the 1st of July. The options were to relocate or quit with severance. It was not clear if Walmart was offering relocation packages or paying any special incentives. As expected, the backlash from the employees was strong. During a subsequent Zoom call where the employees discussed the mandate, discontent overflowed. One participant went as far as to call the policy...

r/WalmartEmployees on Reddit: Has anybody tried for the remote positions that WalMart offers?
May 8, 2024 -

If you haven't, I would consider looking into it. Be aware that working from home is not for everyone, and it does take a different type of discipline, but it is an excellent option if you can get it. These jobs used to take place in call centers but went remote during COVID. After all the pandemic stuff calmed down, the company decided to keep the jobs remote. There are SO MANY options to choose when it comes to different departments, and I know plenty of people that went from in store positions to remote and are thriving. I will try my best to answer any questions anybody might have about the positions.

EDIT: Just to add, I know navigating the career section is a huge pain. I believe I found it on Indeed when I applied.

UPDATE 5/10/25: I got a lot of replies out of nowhere yesterday!! We've only been hiring when gearing up for the holidays. Search for Customer Resolution Specialist positions, Tier II and III. Those would be the positions that would be most likely available at that time. I stumbled upon it while searching for remote positions during Covid, and Walmart had shut down all their call centers. They decided after the pandemic had ended to keep everyone at home, which is why it exists now. I wish so much that I could give you a clearer direction on how to apply. For those looking, I wish you the best of luck!! I know of two folks on my team who came directly from stores. The positions are not available in all states. I know Texas, NC, Arizona, and Arkansas are on the list. I will get specifics and update this again next week.

UPDATE 5/27/25: Here ya go! https://careers.walmart.com/corporate/customer-service-and-call-center

There is most likely nothing available due to the time of year, but check back in the fall!!

UPDATE 11/05/25: It doesn't look like there will be a reliable way to find a remote position anymore, as Walmart has since begun moving a few select teams back to a hybrid or in-office position. There may still be a bit available during the holidays for seasonal work, but I would not bet on it.

Companies That Have Ended Fully Remote Work in 2024 and 2023
September 17, 2024 - Unfortunately for the CEO, this policy change wasn’t welcomed with open arms, with 2,300 Disney employees signing a petition in response which asked Iger to reconsider the policy due to its “unintended consequences” that could cause “long-term hard to the company”. This pushback hasn’t seemed to make much of a difference though, as Disney’s four-day-a-week policy is still in place. ... Not one to be outdone, in addition to requiring all of its white-collar workers to return to the workplace two days a week, Walmart has also decided to ask hundreds of employees to relocate cities, as it closes its Austin, Carlsbad, and Portland offices to recover costs.

Walmart says its thousands of tech employees will continue remote work — even when pandemic subsides
May 28, 2020 - The shift to work from home has inspired some companies to reconsider how they use their office spaces — and if they're worth the pricey rents, high utility bills or hassle of retrofitting to allow social distancing. Walmart is the latest company to announce that tech workers don't have to return to the office anytime soon — or potentially, ever.
