There's so many on YouTube that analysis videos keep going "Look at this cool ARG!" but then what they show doesn't have any gamey elements or opportunities for viewers to influence the story.
Simply put, a lot of these ARGs have no G.
Still kind of confused on what an ARG is
When did ARG start to mean “any internet horror story”?
People dont know what args are anymore
What is an arg?
Ive heard of ARG's before and am interested now but i stumbled into a post on tiktok and the comments were saying it was a part of an ARG one comments replys after another i watched the Inside A Mind video and im now interested in it but im unsure on what it is really. Ive looked it up before and just now but it still doesnt explain to me what ARG's are. Sorry if this post seems dumb its hard for me to pick up things easily and fully understand them off the get-go. TL;DR I wanna get into ARG's but dont fully understand what they are
Apologies if this is a repost, my phone glitched out when I was trying to post the first one.
I admittedly was never too into ARGs, like I never actually participated in one, I just followed a few casually and I understand the whole concept. But recently I have seen the term “ARG” broaden to mean any internet horror story being presented to the reader as if it were true, even if there are no game elements or any form of participation from readers. I especially see this being used for analog horror. Since I’m not too up to date on ARGs, I was curious as to when the definition changed, or if it’s just being widely misused?
Yesterday, I saw an ARG (Alternate Reality Game) iceberg with my boyfriend that included Petscope and the singer Poppy as popular ARGs. However, they didn't include the Lost ARG in the first tier. People are classifying any analog horror and web series as an ARG without having the 'G' part, which is the interaction with the real world and the audience. I just got mad because no one in the YouTube comment section was talking about this. I want to know your opinion on this topic. Sorry about my grammar; English is not my first language.
Im confused about what an ARG actually is. I get that it's an Alternate Reality Game, but I only recently started seeing ARG be used as a term during the Overwatch Sombra thing.
Im just not sure what actually counts as an ARG. Im mostly lost on what makes these things "games".
I started using youtube around 2005 and I have seen my fair share of "internet reality shows." Daxflame, lonelygirl15, and even Marble Hornets.
More recently I have seen 'That Poppy' refereed to as an ARG. Still, I have no idea what "game" has to do with any of it. These things are incredibly passive experiences.
Is the game part of ARG the mystery part? Trying to figure out the meaning? If so, would something like Don't hug me im scared count as an ARG?
What am I missing here?
