What Does the Bible Say About Dinosaurs?
The Bible does not comment on the disappearance of the dinosaurs. However, it does state that all things were created “because of [God’s] will,” so God clearly had a purpose for making dinosaurs.

r/Christianity on Reddit: Dinosaurs in the Bible
June 19, 2021 -

I’m with family and someone brought up the question of when did god create the dinosaurs according to the Bible? We read through the genesis and it said god created Beast and other animals on the fifth day and he also created man on that day. But scientists say dinosaurs died out millions of years ago and man never lived beside them. So when exactly did they exist according to the Bible.

The bible’s purpose is not to tell us when God created dinosaurs. It’s to communicate God’s love for us and how we can spend eternity in Him because of His love.

I am a Christian and have young children amongst whom is a son who absolutely loves dinosaurs. We have read through many books about the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods; even how the earth was initially Pangea one land mass which got separated over time into the continents we have now. I personally believe that the genesis account is not to be taken literally in seven days as in 24 hours each day. Also the concept of space and time is something that is perhaps more complex than what we understand it to be. The archaeological evidence of dinosaur fossils is something I can’t dispute and even though man does not exists with dinosaurs, this doesn’t mean that the existence of dinosaurs conflicts the genesis account. ““The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law.” ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭29:29‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬ In the things which are still a mystery maybe God might let us know how they come to be when we see Him again. But for now, even as I enjoy the knowledge of dinosaurs with my children, it is more important that I teach them God’s Words which He has revealed to us because more than just the science and knowledge of dinosaurs, God’s teachings helps us live and navigate through life in an uncertain and fallen world.

What does the Bible say about dinosaurs? - 2|42 Community Church
August 18, 2025 - They existed because God made them — and they are a part of his grand design. We may never truly understand the history of dinosaurs, but we can be assured that they were created by God. They’re extinct. Theories as to how they went extinct range from the flood to an ice age, asteroid impacts, or climate changes.

What does the Bible say about dinosaurs?
If this happened, why was the extinction selective? Why did some plants and animals, including some more fragile than dinosaurs, not become extinct? From a biblical perspective, the most likely explanation for the extinction of the dinosaurs is the worldwide Flood described in Genesis 6 and 7.

Ministry Magazine | What does the Bible say about dinosaurs?
What we cannot explain does not necessarily lack existence, but is simply another matter, among others, about which the Bible says nothing and that provides potentially fascinating questions for us to study using the fossil record and other data. We should teach our students and church members that dinosaurs did exist. We have clear evidence: we have dinosaur bones, teeth, eggs, footprints, and even impressions of their skin. Furthermore, at some point in history they disappeared. Their extinction could have taken place before, during, or after the Genesis Flood.

Q&A: What Does the Bible Say - What Happened to the Dinosaurs?
Here are some facts about dinosaurs that are not accepted as true anymore: Dinosaurs were specifically reptilian. Dinosaurs were the dominant species. Dinosaurs are millions of years old. Dinosaurs and man never coexisted. Today, Science will tell you that dinosaurs were primarily avian - some even believe that they never went extinct, only evolved into the bird population of today. Others will say that they were killed off in a global cataclysmic event like an asteroid strike, and even Christians will use a version of this theory, stating that the dinosaurs were killed off in the flood of Noah.

If dinosaurs had existed, they would have been on the ark—and still would have existed in large enough numbers to be documented throughout man’s history. The story of the Bible is not about a young Earth, but an ancient one that was literally impacted by the rebellion of a great archangel so many years ago.

What Does The Bible Say About Dinosaurs? | Bible Study Tools
November 15, 2023 - The Bible does not mention dinosaurs by name. However, several passages could be interpreted to refer to them. One such passage is Genesis 1:24, which says: "And God said, 'Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.'" This verse could be interpreted to include dinosaurs, as they were living creatures that roamed the earth during the Mesozoic Era.

Some commentators (such as the Institute for Creation Research) have suggested that Leviathan (otherwise a Hapax Legomenon) in Job 41 is a dinosaur. Not all agree, but it is at least "out there" as a theory.

Prior to the 1820s, dinosaurs were unknown to (modern) man[1], so it is not surprising the are not mentioned in the Bible. (Indeed, the term would have had no meaning).

If the case is that Leviathan is a dinsoaur, then we read:

1 Can you pull in the leviathan with a fishhook or tie down his tongue with a rope? 2 Can you put a cord through his nose or pierce his jaw with a hook? 3 Will he keep begging you for mercy? Will he speak to you with gentle words? 4 Will he make an agreement with you for you to take him as your slave for life? 5 Can you make a pet of him like a bird or put him on a leash for your girls? 6 Will traders barter for him? Will they divide him up among the merchants? 7 Can you fill his hide with harpoons or his head with fishing spears? 8 If you lay a hand on him, you will remember the struggle and never do it again! 9 Any hope of subduing him is false; the mere sight of him is overpowering. 10 No-one is fierce enough to rouse him. Who then is able to stand against me?

Basically, they are big and strong, but God is bigger.

[1]: To be clear, most scientists believe that man was just a mouse during the age of the dinosaur, and even old earth Creationists suspect that the dinosaurs had died out in the "two days" before man. During the 1800s, I believe it was Paley who suggested that the dinosaurs must have died out shortly after the flood. A few die-hard Young Earthers (like the ICR) still advocate that, but for the most part "The Land of the Lost" is just that.

Historians believe that dinosaurs lived before humans. Therefore dinosaurs could be simply mentioned during the 2 days when God created the animals. Gen 1:20-25

God could consider dinosaurs simply animals, and there would be no reason for him to explicitly mention them.
