Understanding Prisma Cloud
A lot of why Prisma Cloud is different comes in terms of why cloud security is different. It's less log centric and more "this API is saying Kyle has an API key 270 days old, that's a liability, raise an alert in the CSPM" or "this k8s control plane appears public" or "this security group is mighty lax" - SIEMs are less about leveraging those API and more about taking in file-like streaming data. I haven't had the pleasure of messing with it but there's also supposed to be some stuff regarding securing your DevOps process, largely from the Bridgecrew acquisition. CSPM/CNAPP/CIEM is definitely messy terms-and-definitions wise but I would make the argument it's that industry rather than Palo particularly that's struggling with it. Unit 42 IR has it's own pool of cloud-specific IR consultants, Unit 42 researchers work with Prisma Cloud-specific threat researchers, etc - it's really it's own world. It's a newer one ("cloud" isn't new but modern cloud security is still very much emerging) vs the rest of solutions and thus it's still trying to figure out what makes the most sense in terms of messaging. I will say I got us a CSPM when I was internal security for Crypsis which M&A'd into Palo. CSPM is IMO somewhat mandatory for anyone who has more than a couple IAM users and instances in the cloud. Is PaloAlto Prisma Cloud trash (compared to Azures features)?
It’s a multi cloud cspm tool. Useful to have if you are in multiple clouds as their native tooling might not cover other clouds. It allows you to define your own policies and measure against existing industry standards. Twistlock (the compute part) is immense compared to others. We use it in our on prem and cloud k8s environments. More on reddit.com

Touch your heart and tell me what you think of PrismaCloud?
I have been using Prisma for five years and would be considered an expert. We started migrating to Wiz a few months ago and I cant begin to tell you how much better their product is in comparison. RQL is a piece of shit. The UI is incomprehensible. Correlation of different findings on a resource is nonexistent. Reporting is almost impossible within the platform. More on reddit.com

Prisma Cloud: Introduction and Cybersecurity Use Cases
February 12, 2026 - Prisma Cloud provides container security that scans for vulnerabilities, malware, and compliance issues in container images before they are deployed and also keeps an eye on running containers for runtime threats and anomalies. For serverless functions, it inspects for vulnerabilities, enforces security policies, and offers runtime protection to detect and prevent attacks. Ensures secure communication between services by monitoring traffic and enforcing security policies for microservices. Prisma Cloud uses anomaly detection for runtime protection to detect threats like privilege escalation, file system changes, or suspicious network activities.

April 26, 2023 -

I only have experience with Palo's NGFWs and XDR. Trying to learn about Prisma Cloud and there is SO MUCH MARKETING FLUFF. On the getting started guide, under CSPM, it is described almost like a SIEM (Identify, detect, response). So basically it ingests configuration data, user activity data, network data, and host data (also like a SIEM), for cloud environments. Couldn't you just ship this data to an existing SIEM? What's the difference? I know I have to be oversimplifying/misunderstanding it!

I automated the workflows to upgrade Prisma Cloud compute edition in my previous org and nobody used it. Slow rolled though the interview process where Palo Alto hires subcontractors and their subcontractors hire subcontractors, and they didn’t hire me thank god, but yeah the tool without multi-tenancy and a single mongodb database perhaps sitting in a kubernetes PVC is trashy. Also, if you use commercial off the shelf software, you will always have a ton of vulnerabilities. Unless you are building your own apps from the ground up in containers, the tooling support provided by Prisma Cloud or Prisma Cloud Compute Edition is fairly worthless.
