I was gifted a very generous gift card with the intention that I use it for a trip with my partner. We went on the trip and tried to use it in over 20 places and it worked at exactly two of them.

I won a sweepstakes through Heineken about a month ago. (Yay!!!) One of the things I received was a digital (not physical) AMEX gift card for $1000. I'd like to note I am not an AMEX member (I use BofA). I've run into some problems with the gift card, however. Almost everywhere I've attempted to use this card, it gets declined. I tried to add it to my Google wallet, but it led to my card being declined and placed on hold every time I tried to use it. It has only worked for one website, that being Steam. But even then, after one purchase, I was not able to use it again, as it was placed on a temporary hold. I assume I could use it again on Steam after the hold has been let up. But, I'd really like to access the card and use it on more than Steam. I also had to recreate my Amazon account, as once I tried to use the gift card as a payment (even with a backup debit card on file), it was flagged as fraudulent, and I could no longer access it. So, after countless phone calls and Google searches that have led me nowhere, I guess I would just like to know: where can I use this dang thing???
Update:
I attempted to call AMEX once again today to possibly solve this issue. The only suggestions I received were to:
Make sure I use this card as a debit, not a credit (will retry several websites as debit just in case they were ran as credit.)
Just keep trying different merchants to see which ones will be accepted. I was also told they were unsure why exactly so many merchants have not worked for me. The man I spoke with said it's a general safety measure, but it shouldn't be happening with all of my attempted purchases. Additionally, because this is a business issued card, if I were to get a physical replacement, it would be sent to the issuer (Heineken).
