Does anyone know when "Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2" is supposed to premiere?
For anyone lurking, Horizon has now been added to Netflix. I watched it again after buying it on Amazon when it first came out. As well as seeing it in theaters twice. I really enjoyed the film.
There are several scenes in the film that are incredibly well done and well written. I think for a lot of people, it was just too much happening and too long.
Spoilers:
The scene where the family explodes the powder in the native American attack scene is incredible. If that were in any other movie, it would be an amazing scene.
Also at the start is the film where they are trying to defend the house, and the son wants to be with his father...
Theres another scene where a Native American poached a deer from an enemy tribe. He attempts to load his gun after his horse gives out, but none of the rounds are meant for that gun. So he stands up and accepts his fate. An absolutely incredible scene and once again, had it been in any other film, I think it would be considered fantastic film making.
Final thoughts:
There are some great scenes in the film. While it deserves some criticism for lack of character development, strange scene order, and some poor acting, it is still beautifully done. Is it as good as lonesome dove? No. Is it on par with westerns like unforgiven? Absolutely. While some acting may not have been great, others were very good. including Sienna Miller who gave a great performance. If you like westerns or great cinematography, give this one a shot. Grab a bowl of popcorn and settle in for an amazing story.
