Just a coincidence. There are rivers all over the world that empty at all different latitudes Rivers flow from the highest altitude to the lowest, and the Amazon's path just follows the geography that happens to take it where it does. More on reddit.com

June 30, 2018I knew that the Amazon is large ofc, but never really thought how close it is to the Pacific ocean in the western part. Instead of the water flowing into the Pacific, it travels the whole continent to flow into the Atlantic. Neat.
It’s always good to remember the Amazon River breaks almost every conversation about rivers; It is the largest river by volume, longest river in the world (depending on how you measure, the Nile is 1 or 2), the largest river with no dam, the mouth of Amazon is largest in the world, largest by watershed, least amount of incline from source to mouth (again depending on how you count) and several more records. The Amazon River is an absolute behemoth with no real comparison. It contains about 1/5 of all river discharge into the worlds oceans, more than the next seven rivers combined More on reddit.com
