I couldn’t find a single place (including ChatGPT!) that clearly lays out all the fees attached to Visa gift cards (the non-reloadable type), so I pulled this list together.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zXrBUO9ePHEqDCDeX1cxvsQ_bGtgarwGOtBNtKwoeHQ/edit?gid=0#gid=0
Common / documented fees:
Activation or purchase fee – sometimes called different things, usually $2.95–$6.95 depending on load amount.
Inactivity / dormancy fee – only allowed by law after 12 months of no use; often ~$4.95/month
Replacement card fee – if lost or stolen, often $5–$8 to reissue.
Foreign / currency conversion fee – ~2% if the card can be used abroad (though most are U.S.-only).
Paper statement / mailing fees – if you request mailed copies of your balance or history (who wants paper, but...)
Decline / denial fee – a few issuers charge when a transaction is attempted for more than the balance (be careful at gas stations with the $200 holds - always go inside)
Card cancellation / refund fee – if you request a check for leftover funds, some issuers deduct ~$10.
This list definitely isn't comprehensive, and fees can keep changing. If you’ve seen other examples that you think are helpful to the group (or if you’ve found a truly no-fee Visa gift card, not just a temporary promo - that would be awesome!), drop them in the comments. I’ll validate and update the list.
I wasn’t able to meet the $1500 max spend with PayPal on my CFF. Does anyone know of a good site for buying Visa E-Gift Cards that will go straight to your email for a low fee? I’ve found some sites that either ship to you which costs more money or they send to your email but the fees come close to not making it worth it.
RESOLVED: Not going through with this. Too many hoops and not enough return.
hi, i'm a minor doing art commissions, i just wanna know where to buy $10 visa gift cards safely. i can only find $25+ on amazon and target, and the websites i found which check all my requirements (sell $10 ecards with email delivery) like vanilla gift and gift cards .com apparently are scams.
just noticed the rules, i live in merica 🦅🦅🦅🦅
Anyone knows where I can purchase VISA/MC gift cards with no fees? Just received Chase Ink Business Cash cc. TIA
Where can I get a physical gift card that is not from the Vanilla company that is either a visa or mastercard?
I’m thinking of stopping by my local bank, and seeing if I can get one there. I had a vanilla gift card and they are a pain in the butt to use.
I would like to know if there is a Visa gift card or reloadable debit card that can be used to make a purchase of another gift card online. I want to provide gift cards to certain people, but I do not want to using my credit card or checking account to support the transaction.
With the 5x back on PayPal with the freedom flex in looking to take advantage of this for bills and Christmas shopping. Any recommendations?
Looking at buying visa gift cards for my employees. Need to pick up tonight for a function tomorrow. Larger amounts. Is Shoppers a good place or is there a better place to pick them up?
Not looking for opinions on cards, I know there's pros and cons. I am only looking for a place to buy them. Thanks in advance!
Is there a good way to buy $500 Visa gift cards with a credit card online for MS purposes? I've called around, and it seems the only place in town that stocks the $500 denomination is Office Depot, and they only accept cash.
Without getting too specific, I have a credit card that offers 2% cash back. My Credit limit is $4800 on this card. I've been thinking, Visa Vanilla gift cards can be bought in increments up to $500 and only come with a $4.95 purchase fee. You can also add a pin to them to run as debit. At the post office, you can purchase up to $10,000 a day in money orders in increments of $1000 for $1.95. I know at my nearby post office, the system doesn't have an issue with using two cards to pay.
Doing some quick math, for every $1000 in gift cards I would pay $1009.90. Then, I'd get 2% cash back on that. That's roughly $20 cash back. With those $1000 in gift cards, I could buy a $1.95 money order and then just deposit it into my bank account. Quick math: $20-$9.90-1.95= $8.15 per $1000. I could do this four times, making $32.60 in the end for probably about a half hour worth of time.
Now, obviously I would have to fill out the required form for buying more than $3000 in money orders, and obviously report this to the IRS as income due to the clear electronic trail, but even assuming a 20% tax rate I'd be making $26.08 for a half hour of effort. If you pay the card off ASAP as soon as the balance due posted, you could probably do this around 10x a month.
I'd imagine a credit card company could/would eventually ban you for this, but I am not super worried about that. I'm more worried: Is this legal? Would this somehow affect your credit score beyond one company not wanting to do business with you? Has anyone done this before?
Hello,
I want to send a virtual VISA gift to someone that can be used anywhere online and buy it using my credit card. Do you know of a site that offers a product like this?
Cheers
A couple weeks ago, my grandfather gave me a $100 Visa Gift Card for my trip to New York City. When I went there, I tried using it in a bakery so that I could buy a cookie, but it declined 4 times. I then tried using online for a couple of things, but it didn’t work there either. I thought that they just didn’t work in restaurants, but I guess not. I called the number in the back and they said that it should work just fine, so now I’m wondering where I can use it, because I feel like I should use it after my grandpa went out of his way to spend a hundred dollars.
Edit: I activated it the moment I got it. I know how a gift card works.
I got this Visa giftcard for christmas but i have absoultly no clue how to make it work online. I was hoping to use it to buy stuff off a video game but when i called the number on the back and asked about using it on the internet they said i would need to use the pin i set up with it. However i have no clue how i would use that when there are no options online. If anyone has any idea how to help its much appreciated.
I would also like to mention that its not a Vanilla, Target, etc Visa giftcard. It just says "Giftcard" on the top so i figure its just a regular one. Thank you!
I received a sealed $200 Visa gift card, only to discover upon opening and attempting to activate it that almost the entire balance had already been used. Amazon absolutely will not take responsibility for it, even though the theft definitely occurred either during or before the card was part of their supply chain.
I escalated up to the CEO's office, just to be told "it's against our policy to replace or refund for this type of product." So their official policy is that it's on you the consumer for being stupid enough to trust them not to sell you stolen Visa gift card.
So anyways, if you're planning to buy someone a Visa gift card, you should absolutely not buy it from Amazon- they can't be trusted to ensure the card information hasn't been stolen, or to do the right thing if it has.
My friend’s birthday is coming up and I’m not sure what to get him, so I wanted to order him a visa gift card (or whatever it’s called) I’ve seen them before in stores where they look like credit cards but they’re like gift cards but they’re not used for one specific thing. Are there any websites that do this, or do I just have to go buy one or order one to be shipped to me?
The balance is more than the purchase but everytime I try to use it, it says "Error Unable to place your order. Please verify that your card information and billing address are correct. If applicable, we have reversed any pending charges to your account."
The few times the order does go through, it gets canceled shortly afterwards
EDIT: I bought a Sephora gift card with the Visa on Amazon. The trick is to put in the exact amount on your card (or less), you also have to do it in one transaction. So what I did before when I bought a $50 and a $25 didn't work. I had to buy a $75
I recently got a $70 visa gift card for my birthday and I would like to spend it online but I’m not to sure how it works. If I make a purchase on a website, does the info on the card work as a debit card or does it only work at select places? Thanks.
Has anyone been able to purchase a visa/MasterCard gift card in store using affirm? Online it won't allow it but I know you get a once time use card in store and wasn't sure how that works. Thanks!
The company I work for has been giving us visa virtual gift cards as a bonus for working weekends. The cards seem almost impossible to use. I could not use them at stores as there is no physical card. I could not use them to buy gift cards for the stores I go to ie Walmart. I cannot use them to pay the mortgage. I cannot add them to Google Wallet. My wife used one to pay a medical bill that is the only successful use thus far. These cards seem like a big scam. Has anyone been able to use them?
