Air conduction sounds better, hands down. Bone conduction is much better than it used to be, but it's still not great. Bone conduction headphones—I have Shokz—are extremely comfortable to wear. How secure they'll be will probably depend on the exercise. I wear them for bicycling and they're secure for that. Answer from oddsnsodds on reddit.com

Air Conduction vs Bone Conduction: What's the Difference – Shokz Canada
November 24, 2023 - Bone-conduction headphones are lightweight and more comfortable to wear for extended periods. They sit on your temples or your cheekbones, which is less irritating compared to over-ear or in-ear headphones.

Air conduction has a speaker playing the noise really close to your ear canal, while bone conduction rests on your skull, usually your temples or high on your cheek bone and transmits the sound thru vibrations in your bones. I have hearing loss in one ear, but it’s the kind where I can’t hear the air conduction, but the bone conduction sounds fine. I spent a LOT of hours one day looking into that because I couldn’t get a good explanation of the difference!

Air Conduction vs. Bone Conduction: A Comprehensive Guide
August 27, 2024 - Open-ear air-conduction headphones, on the other hand, offer the comfort of familiar audio delivery. They don’t press into but hover above the ear canals, reducing the pressure and heat build-up associated with traditional headphones. This design is particularly appealing to those who might find the vibrations of bone-conduction headphones a tad unsettling. The bone conduction greater than ...

There is nothing wrong with the patient's conductive mechanisms (external ear, canal, eardrum, middle ear, and ossicular chain). Therefore air conduction is greater than bone conduction if the air conduction is loud enough to overcome the patient's hearing loss (threshold of hearing).

January 30, 2023 - Normal finding: Air conduction is better than bone conduction. The patient should be able to hear the sound of the tuning fork adjacent to their ear, which persists for approximately twice as long as the sound they heard over their mastoid process. This is considered a "positive test."

Audiology - Air Conduction, Bone Conduction Testing | Britannica
June 6, 2014 - Normal hearing individuals typically have a hearing threshold level close to 0 dB for both air and bone conduction. Individuals with a hearing disorder of any part of the auditory pathway have poor air-conduction thresholds. Poor air-conduction threshold is the primary indication of conductive hearing loss, since abnormalities of the conduction mechanism have relatively little effect on bone-conduction measurements.

August 18, 2023 - Regarding the price-to-value ratio, bone conduction headphones win over air conduction ones. Bone conduction headphones typically cost between $150 to $199 with an excellent build, battery, portability, and other features. While there are dirt cheap air conduction headphones, most don’t really offer any notable quality other than the low price.

In rinnes test why air conduction is better than bone conduction in sensorineural hearing loss though the sound travels via the same pathway? - Quora
Answer (1 of 4): Sound is incident on the Eardrum via the external ear. However, your own voice also travels up the throat, via the eustachian tubes and reaches the eardrum. From the eardrum, the sound is amplified by the ear ossicles in the middle ear and this amplified sound (23X amplification)...

Not everyone will benefit from a bone conduction hearing device (BCHD). A BCHD works best if a person hears better via bone conduction than air conduction, although there are some circumstances when an implantable device may still be considered.

August 2, 2025 - Air conduction uses the apparatus of the middle ear (pinna, eardrum and ossicles) to amplify and direct the sound to the cochlea, whereas bone conduction bypasses some or all of these and allows the sound to be transmitted directly to the inner ear albeit at a reduced volume, or via the bones ...
